B game opinions:

Was a tougher watch than the A's, as it required absorbing Port having a stronger lineup in the fourth (as they had kept half their AFL side on whereas we switched all of them bar Nankervis), the fifth ended up being a slog where neither side could find any fluency before our quality shown through in the sixth and we kicked away as fatigue kicked in. Like the A's game, I think if you're Nicks and co, you're quite happy with that hit out.

For me the big story from the B's game was Toby Murray. Unfortunately he fluffed a couple of easy shots which meant he left a bag of goals on the table but when he was forward, he belted Port's defense (to the point where I reckon he hit double digit marks and 5+ contested marks). Also looked very solid in the ruck when he got second minutes, looking quite athletic and picked up 1-2 clearances. A debut this year is not out of the question, especially as he's now done this kind of performance a handful of times in the last year.

Nankervis got the most game time for anyone in Adelaide, and I think he made the most of the opportunity. Fluffed a couple of moments with his end product, but outside of that, accumulated well on the wing and seemed to be too much to handle for Ports outside players in either the A's or B's. I would be very surprised if he's not best 22 in the next trial, as our usage of him and Milera indicates we're pretty lineball with these two and that was a needle moving performance.

Any time you're directly involved in 4 goals as a small forward (2 goals, 2 goal assists) you've had a big game, and Luke Pedlar did that. He definitely seemed somewhat rusty in the air and with his decision making at times, but looked fit and grew in confidence as the trial went on. Body and form holds up and I wouldn't be too surprised if he ends up in the best 22 rather quickly.

In a similar note, Cook also had a very good game. Ended up with 1 goal, and 2 goal assits (I think it would be two, seeing it was Cook's body work that got O'Leary his goal) and seemed to accumulate at a reasonable click for a half forward flanker.

Ryan played a neat game and made the most of his moments. Ball use was sublime.

Outside of being the MRO first victim, Smith looked a class above the SANFL players, which is what you want from a veteran.

Schoenberg had a strange game. Was Adelaide's best midfielder when we had to absorb Ports best players in the fourth but faded as the lesser lights came on. Still looks fitter than he has in years, and if only he sunk that set shot.

Burgess getting going with his marking the 6th was what kickstarted Adelaide kicking away from Port, before then was invisible.

Murphy was the most consistent of the inside mids Adelaide played. Might be a sneaky shot at a Magarey if he spends all year on the inside.

Taylor was ok. Conceded a goal with a dropped mark, but made up with an excellent rundown tackle in the sixth to goal. May have been a tad unlucky there wasn't a fourth quarter to play in seeing when it comes to the forward line, today was all about Murray and Pedlar as forwards.

Welsh was invisible. Nothing to be concerned about as its going to happen when another key forward is on fire.

Butts was the usual Butts. Dependable.

Borlase had a mare. Conceded two goals to dropped marks and one to a unnessecary free kick. Still, I'm not too particularly concerned as it seemed more he was rusty then anything critical to his game.

Edwards was disappointing. Had some nice runs but seemed to struggle to be involved in the game, and didn't make the most of his limited opportunities.

Berry was also disappointing, seeing he really struggled to get involved against Port's B team.

Gallagher played. Two nice overhead marks, and nothing else.

Drury also looks a solid pickup for the SANFL side. Seems a neat player.

Edit: forgot McAndrews. Didn't have the slightest clue on how to best Jordon Sweet but worked his way into it against the SANFL rucks, and started to show some athletism. Meh performance.
Great analysis. I turned it off after the 4th quarter and now I wish I hadn't. Is there anywhere you can access the full game replay? I'd like to see the last 2 quarters.

Kayo has the full replay.

Did he even get him high?

Brodie a bit unlucky there

It's just a seasoned AFL body hitting an unaware newbie, so he knocked the absolute stuffing out of him. JHF or someone else bounces off and runs on.

He'll likely cop a penalty

Another case of in days gone by it's the perfect hit. These days as soon as you bump you're ripe for the picking. Off the ball but not high. Could be a one weeker, which does nothing other than removes the overbearing temptation for Nicksy to pick him for Round 1.

I know they want to punish the bump if its unnecessary but there is no head contact by brodie or the ground. Should be fine. Maybe a fine.

His chin was bleeding, so probably is a high hit.

Oops. My bad. Is it too late to go with the Port defence of "he hit it on the ground"? :tearsofjoy:
Yeah, we should try it.

I don't think Smith jumped up and left the ground, but he was standing pretty upright and the other guy was bent over after just firing off the handball, so seems like the shoulder has got him on the chin a bit. Good that he's ok, do that too hard and you break jaws.
