Official Team Thread Mt Buller Demons - Season 26 Team Thread - Congratulations Manangatang S26 Deestroy Medalist

Ok everyone. First up everyone gets a participation certificate and a happy meal voucher just for taking part in the season so no sad faces (I'm looking at you Proper Gander ) . On a personal note it was a pleasure captaining the side and an immense thrill to go all the way and take out the ultimate prize in Qooty. We will forever be bonded by that alone. We also were well represented in the All SFA side with Manangatang named as ruck and Tarkyn_24 on a HFF, well done fellas. I’d also like to take the opportunity to thank the LG of Tarks, Headless , cats2rise and sausageroll for all their help and guidance in my first year as captain.

Tonight we will be announcing Mt Buller awards as follows –

§ Goalkicking Award

§ Rookie of The Year (Best First Year Player)

§ Best Defender Award

§ First ever Demon Legend will be announced and 3 new HoF inductees

§ Coaches Award (Best Clubman as picked by the club captain)

§ Eth Award (Players’ Player Award)

§ Deestroy Medal (Best and Fairest)

Sooooooooo without further ado we will kick off the round by round count

Round 1

Gumbies FFC vs Mount Buller Demons

Round 1 saw us facing the Gumbies again after having a pre season hit out with them the prior week. The coaching staff had done their homework and well thought out match ups seemed to make the difference. Despite a tight first quarter the Gumbies were never in it as we led at every stage of the match. Our rookies TheDarkDwarf , ABray10 , Sir Hugh Percy all played solidly as did our recruits from the Furies manangatang and tigland . A great way to open the season.

Final score:

Gumbies FFC : 16.6.102

Mount Buller Demons : 18.9.117

Round 2

Mount Buller Demons vs Gold City Royals

We were looking to back up our solid opening game with another win against the Royals. Added to this bitter sweet match up against former Demon favourite @RodneyDangerfield. We skipped away to a ten point lead at quarter time however the Royals fought back to level the scores at halftime. The third was an arm wrestle however the Royals held the ascendancy going into the last. In what was to become a trademark for us, we fought back in the final stages of the match to run out eventual 7 point victors thanks to late goals from lanky_wes and tigland

Final score:

Mount Bullder Demons : 12.13.85

Gold City Royals : 12.6.78

Cats2Rise Medal –

The cats2rise medal is awarded to the highest goal kicker for the season. We started the season with ABray10 up forward and he performed reasonably well including a 9 goal haul in round 5 but was a little inconsistent. FinBar19 got a shot at FF in round 9 and despite a quiet debut at FF consistently kicked bagfulls of goals for the remainder of the season including a Sweet FA record 11 goals in a Grand Final. Well done FinBar19 on a steller start to your Qooty career

Round 3

Las Vegas Bears vs Mount Buller Demons at The Stadium In The Sky

After two in a row we seemed confident in overcoming a largely inexperienced Bears line up. Things appeared to be going to plan as we opened up and impressive 31 point lead in just 7 minutes of the first quarter. However, the Bears fought back valiantly to go into the first break 9 points up after the massive crowd witnessed an absolute goal fest with 15 majors kicked by quarter time. The Bears extended their lead to 28 points by half time . The coaching staff gave us all our first real spray of the season and it seemed to work as the we cut the deficit to 15 points by 3 quarter time. All this seemed to do was wake the Bears up from their mini hibernation as they pulled away to a 32 point lead at the 12 minute mark. We bravely fought it out in the finals stages but simply could not close the gap going down by 7 points in a belter!

Final score:

Las Vegas Bears : 20.17.137

Mount Buller Demons : 19.16.130

Round 4

Mount Buller Demons vs Sin City Swamprats at Snow Dome

After falling at the last hurdle in S25 the Swamprats were looking for their first win of S26 when they traveled up the mountain to the Snow Dome to face us. We were looking to get back in the winner’s circle after their loss to the Bears in the previous round. It was a freezing cold day at Mt Buller and the match was played in rainy conditions. The Swamprats came out all guns blazing in the first quarter and skipped out to a 20 point at the 20 minute mark of the first quarter but 3 goals in the last 5 minutes from us saw the team’s go into the first break with just a point separating the them. The second quarter was another tightly contested affair but the second half was all Swamprats who ran out eventual winners by 14 points delivering us our second defeat.

Final score:

Mount Buller Demons : 12.8.80

Sin City Swamprats : 14.10.94

Is anyone else not seeing them?
All good they’re showing now.

I’d suggest posting a text copy of the final vote tallies in the thread at the end of this as BF doesn’t always seem to store images long term.

Round 5

Mount Buller Demons vs East Side Hawks at Snow Dome

The Hawks were looking to back up their impressive win the previous week against the talented Las Vegas Bears side while the we wanted to get our season back on track after an upset loss to the cellar dweller Rats. There were cloudy skies in abundance as we ran out on to the Snowdome field in front of a capacity crowd. The usually raucous home crowd were quickly silenced as The Jesus showed his intentions early with this classic piece of play that stunned our supporters into silence.

1 : 0 {C} - The Jesus gets one hand to it.

1 : .07 {C} - The Jesus breaks free and has found some space.

1 : .12 {C} - That's a massive kick from The Jesus.

1 : .16 {C} - Was it touched? Goal umpire says no!.

Mount Buller Demons : 0.0.0

East Side Hawks : 1.0.6

However, it wasn’t long before the adoring Range Rover club were popping their corks as the Demons took a commanding lead into the half time break and came out all fired up for the second half. @Bray10 booted 9 majors for the match as we went on to well and truly clip the wings of the demoralised Hawks with a massive 86 point drubbing to restore our confidence and set us on a new path.

Final score:

Mount Buller Demons : 24.17.161

East Side Hawks : 12.3.75

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR - SEASON 26

Some promising talent walked through the Mt Buller doors to start the 26th season in the Sweet FA. TheDarkDwarf , ABray10 and Sir Hugh Percy all started strongly. After round 7 a Wonders “reject” was approached after their teamsheet had filled up and the rest was history. FinBar19 played his first game in round 8 at CHB and creamed them. The opportunity to move to FF was presented to the youngster and he grabbed that opportunity with both hands. His goal tally from Round 9 is listed below. He kicked 64 for the season averaging 5.3 goals per game at FF. He also worked his way into some good posting form at the backend of the season once he found his feet. Well done FinBar19 you are this year’s Mt Buller Rookie of the year!

Round 6

Dragons FFC vs Mount Buller Demons at Dragon Island

The Dragons had a bit of strut to their stride as they ran out onto the field. And rightly so! They were on a three game winning streak and were feelin’ it. We were quietly confident after our 86 point annihilation of the Hawks the previous week plus we had Demon stalwart Oddhawk returning after a mysterious disappearance part way through season 26. Rain marked the start of play but both sides seemed to handle the slippery conditions well with accurate kicking from the our lads up front giving us a 4 point lead at the first change. The second quarter was another tight affair and the margin was only 3 points at half time. Advantage Mt Buller! The Dragons came out breathing fire in the third and grabbed the lead by the final break to be 13 points up. We threw everything we could at the Dragons in the last quarter, but the home team was too strong and the held on to record an 8 point victory.

Final score:

Dragons FFC 15.8.98

Mount Buller Demons 14.6.90

Round 7

Mount Buller Demons vs Fighting Furies

At this point in the season we were only mid-table and the Furies were flying and things did not bode well for us early on with the Furies grabbing a 22 point lead at the first change as Sterge stamped his dominance up forward. We battled hard to gain back some lost ground in the second however we fell a further point down by halftime. Richard_Cranium had some sombre words to say that set us on a path that would see us take the ultimate prize

From the opening bounce of the third qtr cats2rise led from the front and fought desperately to help us climb out of hell one inch at a time. In a miraculous turn around we led by 5 points going into the last quarter. We were spent. The tiredness was bone deep. We spoke as a team at 3 quarter time about how we would not be denied. In an epic last quarter we went goal for goal, point for point with the Furies to grab a memorable victory. One that allowed us to have faith in each other that no matter the adversity we face, we could rely on each other to fight with every fibre of our being, to be the best we could be.

Final Score:

Mount Buller Demons 19.14.128

Fighting Furies 19.10.124
