Danger has had 4 good seasons, GAJ had 4 good seasons as well

the stigma between the two separates them imho. GAJ is considered by many to be one of the finest players of this century so should be on it.
Ablett was in the top 3 of the b and f in years 2005 and 2006 before going into domination mode. So 4 good seasons is a bit unreasonable. 4 amazing seasons maybe and a few very good seasons 05,06 and 19 (All Australian squad)

Small forwards unfortunately tend to lack recognition unless they make the AA team, which often fills those spots up with midfielders anyway. Not that Ablett's seasons in that role were necessarily AA sufficient, but he was very good as that young, small forward who rotated through stoppages. Then as the crafty veteran creator up forward very late on. It gave our forward line a big boost, although we were still a couple of players short.

Nobody would've really batted an eyelid at Ablett getting 3 Brownlow's at Geelong, but you can also say Dangerfield's 2017 arguably sweeps League MVP, Brownlow and Coaches Association award practically every season. He just happened to compete against one of the great seasons by Martin. Even then nothing split them until finals.

Give me peak Ablett Jnr over peak Danger or any other player over the last 20 years.

I agree.

I do think Dangerfield's 2016 + 2017 were special though. Mixed bag in finals (our whole team was all over the shop tbf) probably the only things you could criticise.

Ablett however was at that level or higher for basically 8 consecutive seasons, including 4 finals campaigns.

Pretty much. If you had asked most (I'm guessing Geelong fans) around 2002-2003 about our expectations for Gary junior, taking into account the emotional pull most responses would have been something along "really hope he turns into a good player for Geelong". Becoming a very good player would have been even better. But there's no way I expected him to become as great as he was.

I'll tweak the Geelong one
Can't have Ablett jnr when a lot of his best footy was for someone else. Bobby Davis for mine
For me it is Dennis, Bruce, Huddo and Sandy
Recency bias. Pete & Lou I think remain the most iconic pairing (they called the match of the day, all night games, all interstate games together between '78 and '86).

How Pete managed to call everything in that chaotic Sheldon goal is beyond me.

Before my time. So some recency bias for sure.
