Ah yes, the mullet. Greg Anderson, Keiran Sporn, Peter Somerville, Paul Salmon (circa 1993) and the original mullet himself Mark Harvey. A memorable 'fashion' statement from the past. This has probably been done before, but who wore the best mullet at your club? Any of you blokes around here 'go the mullet'?

where's wally?

Ok, I guess you could say we've had a small few, not in the Sticks or Whiskers catagory, but Clinton Browning, Matt Connell (in the early days), Joe Cormack, Ian Dargie, Alex Ishchenko, Dean Laidley, Robbie West, Peter Melesso and Geoff Miles all had minor mullets.

Gary Ayres had the worst Mullet

The Hawks were unbeatable when they had mullets across the field (Ayres, Dipper, Pritchard, Dunstall). Many presumed that the flapping dirty locks was the source of their power. Geelong were also pretty good in the mullet stakes (Riccardi, Bairstow, even Ablett had a scrawny mullet) but never quite had the numbers.

And of course once you'ver got rid of the mullet...its aura remains. Carey still has an invisible mullet.

Kelly and Lockett both doggedly and stubbornly hung on to their mullets untill well into 1997.

Can't believe any of you guys haven't mentioned Garry Hocking - a legendary mullet and its still going strong !

And Peter Sumich ? - the best Western Australian mullet by miles.

and anyone remember the TRULY HIDEOUS mullet Terry Wallace sported in the 80's ? another of the famous Hawthorn 'Mullet Brigade' surely ?

cheers

Platts had a 'fuzzy mullet'

But my vote goes to 'Conan' Ayres.

He'd probably make any crows players with one these days wash a car as punishment.

But the crows had a few mullets in the early nineties didn't they ?

Scotty Turner and Paul Bulluss were running around with mullets as late as 1995!

With all this attention on the mullett, do you think that it will make a comeback?

So much for the afterglow

Will the mullet make a comeback! Absolutely. Riccuito and Rehn have both worn the mullet cut. Adrian Gleeson and Matthew Hogg had them 'til the end of their careers (making Hogg one of the last mullets). Steve Kernahan had a classic mullet. All that hair - a hairdresser's delight or worst nightmare.

I think Buddha will continue to keep it as it has become somewhat of a trademark, so to speak!

Greg Anderson, now coaching South Adelaide, is re-growing his. Perhaps he thinks it will ward off sharks when he is swimming.

A mullet would've looked good on Robbie McGhie. Even if it didnt I wouldnt have told him.

i think at mulletsgalore.com or mulletblitz.com .. cant remember which.. there is a category called 'Aussie Mullet'... and, buddha and sticks are in there.. hehe... pr0n mullets are good too.. heheahha

Robbie was actually a SHARPIE - fav. band Lobby Lloyd and the Coloured Balls. Mullets grew out of long-hair-meets-hair-stylist look from the early pop videos - I think a Flock of Seagulls were involved.

Does that mean that Robbie McGhie was a Flock of Seagulls fan? The coloured Balls kicked arse.

How soon we forget! Daniel Southern was in that imtermediate zone between the traditional mullet and a Robbie McGhie sharpie haircut.

CJH's mullett has long since gone to mullett heaven. In the early to mid eighties, teenage CJH wore a magnificent specimen of a mullett which grew past his shoulders. The glory of this was compounded by the rat tail that extended down to the middle of his back!

This was complemented by the classic bogan fashion of the time - Mocco's, torn jeans and the unbuttoned flannelette shirt.

Nowaday's the mullet is viewed with the same cringe factor as the brown velvey suit, giant collars, flares and mutton chops!

Oh well, gives my kids something to laugh at!

This is a hallucination and these faces are in a dream. A computer generated environment; a fantasy island you can do anything and not have to face the consequences.

BTW, while writing this, I am listening to Def Leppard's Pyromania!

Serious mullett action there!

was there a mullet in Joffa's photo?

Mark Zanotti had a great mullet (although someone correctly pointed out that it was a hallmark of the early West Coast sides)

Bernie,
I had the pleasure of seeing Lobby and The Balls live at the Prince Of Wales about 18 months ago (with Matt Taylor and Chain on the same bill, bloody great gig!). And i can assure you, Lobby's mullet is definitely a thing of the past. There's nothing left.
But jeez, the old boys can still rock! It was one of the loudest gigs i've been to.

where's wally?
