Yeah, sure you would have stayed had you played in the G.F. The club is better off without players who are just buck chasers - no matter who they are.
As if you would have turned down that sort of money (plus a 4 year contract.. i think?) as a young player who was relatively untried, as well as receiving an almost guaranteed place in the side...

In hindsight I'm not annoyed that we lost Mumford anymore because we won the premiership and got Duncan in the trade with Mumford.

I don't know about this one:
I think we are doing fine with the rucks now. Blake has seemed pretty solid to me and Dawson Simpson looks great.
We won't find out whether we are doing fine until Ottens retires.

Then we can form an opinion.

I'm sad Mummy goes but I don't blame him, because he saw an opportunity to play regular AFL footy.

Mitch Duncan is a win win.

Pretty easy to say after the event. Good luck to the bloke, he made a decision and I hope it works out for him.

However, there is something to be said about a bloke who sticks around and tries to make a position his own. I would have liked to have seen Mumford attempt to make the 2nd ruck his. People seem to think he was better than Blake, maybe he should have stuck around and backed himself.

He chose not to. Sydney gave us pick 28.

We get Duncan, and I know who I'd prefer at the Cattery.

I don't have any issues with what he has said or did.

Seems like a reasonable bloke.

Why play for i'm guessing around 100k and be (wrongly) 3rd choice when you are offered 300k per year long term and 1st choice at a club that isn't horrible?

I'm happy with what Simpson showed against Freo, so I don't think we're ****ed for ruck stocks once Ottens goes and as mentioned Duncan was a gun pick up for the pick we got for Mumford. Pretty sure Sydney would be happy too. Just an all around win for everyone involved, don't undertand why anyone would be bitter about it.

So where are all the people attacking his character becuase he left a club after being overlooked to play in a premiership?

People were happy to line up against Blake when he was justifibly upset for being dropped from a Grand Final (Not that he ever said anything for a few years but people here are good at infering others thoughs).

If he is that focused on a Premiership wouldn't he have had better odds at getting it by staying around and forcing Blake out of the team this year?

It is quite possible for Geelong to win again this year.

It just seems to be a convienient excuse now and means nothing.

“You can’t leave after playing in a Grand Final with a side,” he told radio station SEN.

This is good news for Geelong. We can now offer all of our premiership players minimum salary and we will have no dramas under the salary cap.

Plus Gaz and Selwood are locked in.

Because you are not allowed to leave after you play in a Grand Final side with a club.

Sorry Mummy, saying stuff like that just makes you seem like a bit of a simpleton.

Good point. It's funny a lot of fans brag about how we recruit players of good "character" and so forth (personally I couldn't care less as long as they can play), and then wonder when we get annoyed at ones who sulk and walk. Prismall comes to mind, and though I don't blame Mumford for taking the money, he's kidding himself if he thinks he deserved finals ahead of Blake. He'd run out of steam way before Round 22.

I love the mindless comment that Geelong are struggling without Mumford. Yeah a 3-1 record really stinks. Good research there Hanna.

Whatever. Blake '07 had more reason to be pissed off than Mummy '09, as soon as Otto got fit late last year then his fate was sealed. Can't fault him for taking the coin and running, but this is just sour-grape stuff.

We don't need petulant players like a Mumford. Good on him for taking the loot, but fair dinkum, he is NOT yet worth the money he is being paid, and to believe he deserved a berth in the GF team, and then to leave because he was overlooked tells me so much about his character.

Right.......

Ok I didn't realise we were doing so bad in the Ruck stocks....Blakey had a good game on Sunday...he is still a bit wooden around the groud, but we can more than make up for that....

Also, say Mummy played in the GF....and we lost....I am not saying he would be a make or break player, but we certainly needed 110% from our "best" players, and I would think 110% of mummy at the time is not the same as 110% of ottens or blake....

He may be good around the ground but we needed someone to get the clearances.....

I have no problem with mummy going and I was sad we couldn't keep him, but there aren't many I would have liked to have taken his place.....and look at Duncan.....:D!

Yep Mummy shut up....

Mumfird absolutely made the right move IMO, he'd have played 1 games so far this year and have had Simpson breathing down his neck as well.

A good point DanA , although watching him at the Swans , watching Blakes "progress" , I'm sure that he would be capable pushing Blake for his position. Perhaps a rest for Ottens at some stage , both get games and direct comparisons which would happen would get him ahead of MarkB.
Ultimately , so what. For the time being , he does his job. When Ottens finishes it might be a different story.

The thing is for mine , we may still be better long term with Duncan than Mumford. He has already show glimpses of what he may give us, hopefully many years high quality midfield/forward play.If he can go on and become a core member of the "New Wave" we will look back at this deal in the same sort of way we look at the Mansfield deal which gave us Chapman. Shame it happened but.. thank God it happened

yeh sure is a buck chaser... if that means wanting a guaranteed future for 4 years, steady income, and will be picked every week in the ones.
he is now number 1 ruck at sydney, and would never have got that role at geelong in the next 4 years.

he is smart, saw his opportunity, and took it. which young player (u23) struggling to play every game at their club wouldnt take this?

Firstly I havent read anywhere (except here) that Mumford thought he should have been picked ahead of Blake in the grand final and secondly you picked up a very promising young player and i think in 5 years time both teams will be happy with the result.
