For all the talk of 300k a season or whatever, Mummy left for the chance to get a regular senior game, and while I miss him, I can't blame him.

And everytime I see Duncan play I realise it'll be a win-win deal for both clubs, so let's all just move on, enjoy round 7, and the future.

Yep. Mummy gets more game time, gets a bit of coin for some sausage sizzles and we have Duncan to develop into a gun midfielder. I reckon we did alright.

I'd like to think we'd have gotten rid of Blake & held on to Mummy if their contracts were up at the same time.
You might like to think that, but you're dreaming.

Blake is a premiership player, has family ties to the club, and has been the subject of about 5 years of hard work by the coaching and development staff. He also got a game in the GF ahead of Mumford. I don't think there's any way they were going to dump him for a bloke who was rookied off the VFL list last year and played 10 games.

Blake is still only 24yo, and is already the best tap ruckman we have, and frankly one of the best in the AFL. He gets a game on that basis alone. His problem is that he is f***ing hopeless around the ground, but I'm sure the club is working on that and has faith that he will improve as he matures.

Mumford left for many reasons and although money should be considered one of them he will get more game time at Sydney and has a four year contract instead of one. Mumford was a rookie but wasnt 18 to 19 like most others and doesnt have 10 plus years left like most other rookies . however you look at it if Mumford had stayed and had a quiet year then he may not have even been offered a new contrct next year

Geelong probably couldnt pick Mumford and trade Blake for several reasons Blake is more experienced and has less risk involved and in premiership teams the safe option is usually the best. Blake was picked for the grand final for a reaon and should be considred the better ruckman at this point.

Blake would probably have less value in trade and probably be prepared to sign a 1 or 2 year contract for a similar price to what Mumford would have been offerd at Geelong.

On this we agree. I understand Geelong offered him a 2 year contract not 1 but your point is valid that the security of the Swans 3 or 4 years contract on more money would have to appeal to a mature Rookie like the Mummy.

Listening to him interviewed on SEN this morning , his answers also indicated that he would have stayed at Geelong if he had played in the GF.
Also that Roos ensured he would be in their best 22 so game time was a big consideration.

In the end Sydney lost a well paid ruckman which gave them money to spend , they already have a bigger cap than every other team so Geelong really were in a no win situation. Its not the first time or the last that a side with as much talent as Geelong loses players to other clubs. All I hope is if the day comes when we have room in our Cap thru us losing players, perhaps we can return serve their way with a couple of their young kids cause they usually find it hard to get into their side . Love to have Rohan at KP

Re: Mumford' "fortune"

Yeah that's what I thought...only saw about half of your game last week and this comment made me think twice....given his size and quick adaption to AFL, I thought perhaps I'd just overlooked it at draft time.
We got him from East Perth. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he's been playing senior footy in the WAFL, hence his ability to cope with the mature bodies of AFL.
Looks promising and poised so far, and interesting to see him pushed into the midfield last Sunday. Yet another rotation...

We got Mumford for nothing, made him a reasonable player and put him on the straight and narrow towards success.....we lost Mumford and gained Duncan who will be a 10 year player of the future and whom we still pay nothing at the moment and allow other stars to keep within the team.

All in all, we have benefitted greatly from the Mummy. Sure it would be great to have him back....and with the goodwill we have generated we would be the first club he considers if he chooses to move from the Swans!

Good luck to him, wish him all the best, but geez i'm happy we have Mitch Duncan!

That's what they all say, that it was not about the money but for some other bs reason. lol

Unfortunately there's still a bit of stigma for players tha leave their club for a "reasonably" better contract elsewhere, that is a contract that abides by the salary cap rules, Gold Coast lucre is a whole different kettle of fish altogether. No hard feelings from my part. It's understandable he'd take it given that he's no established superstar and his football career may well be over in 3 years time. Good luck Mummy, except when Sydney are up against Geelong. :thumbsu:

I suspect only Geelong supporters who have been dropped on their head when they were babies will have the stupidity and temerity to boo him.
I won't be booing him and I will get stuck into anyone who does. It would be quite inappropriate.

I will however, kindly advise him to elbow Blake like he did the North guy so he can do that gobsmacked look again :D

I'll boo him against Otto, cheer him against Blake.

Side note: Heard him on the radio this morning and my gosh was he dumb as a box of hammers. I know footy players aren't the smartest of folk but wow.

At least Blakey's working on his degree/s I guess.
