Will Mundy re-sign? Or will he go back home?

Might a trade be to our advantage? What could be get for him??
What prospective teams are in the market?

Who could step up in his place?

Speculation, gut feelings and tin foil hat theories here.

Let's talk some Mundy!

Word is he will stay as he is 28 years of age and now settled here. We have plenty of room in our salary cap too to keep him.

However he is about to receive several large offers in an attempt to lure him back to Victoria according to Kim Hagdorn. I think GWS are also interested.

He'll stay, I am not worried at all and he'll probably be captain next year even if he says he isn't the captain type. He'll get shitloads of cash to stay and is worth every penny.

Ehhh, got the gut feeling. He''ll sell out for the cash. I don't feel it's worthwhile throwing the kitchen sink at him, after we win the cup this year* I reckon we have the depth coming through (Neale esp.). Wonder what we could get for him?

Fyfe, could and should be the next captain.

Moreover Mundy backing away from suggestions of becoming Captain next year, only solidifies the idea to my mind that he's not committed beyond this year.

The chance to play for any hometown team of his choosing after a winning the cup and doing all that could be done with Freo. Plus a massive golden parachute, who could blame him?

I see it as exactly the opposite.
Not wanting to be captain doesn't infer anything other than it isn't his thing.

He will be a one club player IMO.

Here in Sydney the talk continued
To be about GWS throwing massive amounts of cash at Fyfe and Nic Nat. Everyone is starting to say they will never bet a big free agent, so I expect them to go hard at everybody next year

You could be right. If/when we win a Grand Final I think some like him will know their job has been done and may look elsewhere

You will never get Fyfe - he is way too purple

Thats how I see it too. His last contract I was massively stressed but this one not so much. If we could trade him for high picks (not so likely as free agent I suppose) I'd be ok with that. We will have to rebuild a little over the next couple of years, some high quality in the untainted drafts coming would be useful.
He's given great service for where we landed him and he's been loyal. Just finish off this year with a cup David!

Whoever he signs for its likely to be a huge contract, good luck to him wherever it is but like Pav and co if he didn't leave through the hard times hopefully he wont now we're winning games and can match pretty much anyone's offer.

Not the thread for it but Ibbotson could also get some decent interest.

I assume Mundy is unrestricted what about Ibbotson?

He could easily get offered over $1m a year. You can build a midfield around him, and there aren't many players like that.

If that happens, I doubt we can reasonably get close to it. Bottom line is that we have an awful lot of interstate players on our list and rightly or wrongly they get targeted by interstate clubs more so than guys like Fyfe or Mayne. That he's Victorian means 10 clubs have him on their radar - at least when Pavlich was out of contract it was really only ever the Crows that were seriously interested.

I'm with E Shed and Roy. Looking at the stages of Vic clubs, it's Hawthorn and Collingwood for me who have the cash, and the need for a plug in and go player ie they're not rebuilding or developing a young midfield.
To go to an unsuccessful club, he will get offered the captaincy, Saints or doggies, as well as huge money.

If he wants to be traded, Jono O'Rourke from GWS is a free agent former pick 2, possibly we could trade mundy and a late first round or early 2nd round for him?

There wouldn't be any trade if he did leave. He's a free agent. Why would any club bother trading for him when they can get him via free agency without losing anything?

Firstly we cannot trade him, he is a free agent, so is available, and we would get compo, which I guess would be late first round. That would not be great, but it is what we would get.

Second, i think the captain thing is a red herring. It doesn't seem to be a huge factor for him, and worth noting that Fyfe has not even entered the leadership group. I am sure if Mundy was offered it then that would be nice, but not a clincher per se.

Thirdly, he has been offered big money before and he has stayed. How much "more" than what we offer would it need to get him to leave? I am not sure, but we will value him highly and he will get a damn good offer from us. Eventually, if a player wants to put himself up for auction, the right move becomes to let him go, take the draft pick, and let Sylvia, Sheridan, Sutcliffe and Neale fill the gap.
