My bad, I didn't realize IF a player says they want to go back to Melbourne that they were able to demand what-ever they wanted. I thought the best offer would be what they take. Unless they want him to go into the PSD.

Not sure if this is the case of not with him WANTING to go back, but if it is and we offer the best. WE WIN.

we'd be very lucky if they took that, don't forget there'll be other clubs bidding for him as well and they might have earlier first rounders to offer.

Not sold on Mundy. He ended the season in fantastic form, but I've also seen plenty of his bad games. If he heads back to Victoria I suspect the Essendon Crisis will be keen to overpay to get his services. But would he want to play for that coachless disaster? I reckon he'll stay at the Purple Game Throwers.

:)

Agree Completely. We are really lacking another quality mid. At the moment we probably have two with Gibbs in the backline, we have Judd and Murphy. You could chuck in Simpson aswell however he is more of a wingman.

With another quality mid and tall defender our team looks set to challenge for years to come

Then someone said Mundy & Tarrant for Betts and Walker. Our best mid and defender for 2 spuds!

You're a moron. Betts is our leading goal kicker this year and Walker made the AFL team of the week three times and has now shown promise as a forward.

If he declares for the PSD then he'll have to get past however many picks GC have as well as WC's pick before a Victorian club gets a chance at him. Freo, Mundy, and whichever clubs are chasing him, don't want that to happen, so it won't. Don't delude yourself into thinking freo will take your garbage because we have no leverage.

Did you enjoy your Karma on Friday night?

:)

You have to love how Carlton and non-Carlton supporters alike criticise our drafting of our mids, yet we're suddenly wetting our pants over the chance to get Mundy.

I thought quality midfielders were easy to find, so you needed to go tall early?

We have enough inside and outside midfielders coming through.

Myers probably wouldn't move sideways to another Victorian club with a new coach about to be appointed. Yet I'd look at him closely if he came onto the market. Myers has the sort of kick we need off half back.
TG I like you and all that, but pick 18 + Browne for Mundy is a bad deal for the Dockers.
I want to keep our first pick Tarquin.

That's all.

For mine, trading pick 18 and something else of value to get Mundy would be too costly.

Isn't someone we should remove ourselves from the draft for.

Essendon need Mundy more than Carlton.

And you need to come out of the closet as a Fremantle supporter. :p :D
He's an old-fashioned agent provocateur mayne iac, posts to provoke when the board goes quiet.

Reckon most teams have at least one (The General, Captain Groenwogen, etc etc), sometimes I wonder if they get the occasional PM from the mods asking them to create a contentious thread to incite the faithful.
These Freo fans can't tell their parrot's, celtic_pride's, djibril_cisse's/TorresIsGod's, PooMonkey's, etc. apart from me.

Don't they get coverage of our posts in WA?

I had such high hopes for Browne and had him as my tip for a breakthrough year...but his value disappeared this year. It's not over for him, and I hope he makes it, but in terms of 2010 trade value, he gives us nothing.

Unlike others i'm not on Mundy bandwagon based on two things, 1) cost (first round pick at least), and 2) our focus should be on other areas first.

Carlton need to remain focused. There is every chance that if Bower and Jamison don't develop A LOT further, we are in strife in terms of tall backs. I assume they will develop, particularly Bower but will they develop enough is the question.

I'm not really a fan of top up backs like Dees Warnock/Tarrant but would agree, both would fit in our starting back 6 come 2011. Tough one...you need players to bleed for you club and i doubt either will.

I'm still a big fan of the draft but agree because we haven't got talls in the last 2 drafts (who would be developing), we are then 2-3 years away from having one via this method! And i;'m not talking just tall players, i'm talking first round quality tall!

WHs should be moving heaven and earth for defensive/offensive talls via trade/WAFL/SANFL/VFL. Mundy is a minor improvement...unearthing a quality tall is a HUGE improvement!

I don't mind people saying that they would prefer to keep their first round pick, but to say pick 18 is overs for Mundy I think is wrong. It might not suit Carlton's needs and timeframe, but he is a talent.

I also dislike when anyones supporters throw in a crap player into a trade and all of a sudden it becomes fair.

Pick 34 + Browne + Thornton + Fisher + Tiller + Johnson for Ablett. Look we've given them a pick and 5 players, what an amazing deal.

Packaging spuds rule- should be an automatic red card. Mundy is a no for mine. We threw are resources at Mclean last year as a needed inside mid and have to back him in now(Hope he comes good, every second thread on the trading board has the Mclean #11 example in there)

Well, that proved frivilous... I was big on the Mundy bandwagon.

Warsaw's spot on. Apparently going to sign a new 2-year deal by the end of next week.

Damn

It's quite Funny that you don't realize he's out of contract. He could go to Richmond in the PSD for zip. Now THAT would be funny wouldn't it.

:)
Why would a player who started off at a club do that? Surely they would want to make sure the club that gave them their first opportunity was looked after? Heard that Tarrant has already said to clubs that he has spoken to that he wants Freo well looked after in any trade. I would have thought that this approach would align with the integrity of most players

Any player's #1 priority is to get to the Club they want. The distant #2/last priority is to get a reasonable deal for the Club they're leaving. Has always been that way since day dot. If he goes to GC17, you're stuffed - might be a 2nd round pick, which is around the 30-40 mark this year. If one of the Essendon/Richmond rabble set convince him to go there, because they have high PSD picks, it'll significantly weaken Freo's negotiating power.

We're actually in the same situation with Jacobs. It's just a fact that your negotiating power is reduced when a player is out of contract. People make a massive mistake of assuming "Trade Value" is the same as "Player Ranking". It ain't. It's all about leverage each side has in the trade negotiation. Anyway, I reckon he'll stay at the Purple Game Throwers with a larger contract in 2011. He's a good player, but massively over-rated IMO because of a form spurt at the right end of the season.

What? Like Luke Ball?

What this guy said. Dockers get absolutely reamed on that deal.
I explained it, why so why quote it again and not read the whole thread?

I have other wants than signing Mundy with pick 18.

Would be in our best 22, but is it easy to find mids like we keep hearing?

Mundy was pick 19 after Freo drafted Ryley Dunn with pick ten.

Our supporters would have overreacted again if we had traded pick 11 for Mundy last year.

I'm holding out for a KPP this year.

I'll defend Caro against Hutchy, but she's still a flog.

Freo stuck on Mundy
"We are very confident David will stay and we are hoping that decision will be made soon," Bond said yesterday.

"I think he wants to stay at this football club because it's a football club that's playing great football.

"He's really embedded himself into a great midfielder and he deserves all the accolades he gets. He's a great young man and we see him as a very important part of our future.

"We're very comfortable with where it (contract negotiations) is at. We'll be talking to David regularly over the next couple of weeks and we're hoping the decision will be made pretty soon."
