Anyone got any thoughts on the evolution theory, that we as human beings evolved out of Africa? The discovery of a 60,000 year old skeleton in Australia, seems to refute these claims, since the DNA is "modern" and dates back to before the time of the apparent African ancestry.

I'm not really sure what I'm on about. I just read it and heard about it. Can someone explain it who knows a bit more?

Dan

Aparantly the modern Human genes can be traced back to Homo Sapians (suprise Suprise) who evolved out of Africa, and srpead throughout Asia and eventually to Australia a few Ice Ages ago.

Prior to this you had Homo Erectus which also aparantly spread out of Africa and then settled throughout Europe / Asia. The interesting thing about Mungo Man was that his genetic line includes Homo Erectus and that he is "only" 60000 years old....which means that Homo Erectus evolved seperately in places where they were not wiped out by Homo Sapians, possibly into something indishtinguable from modern man.

In the Australian where it was first published they then concluded that Aborigines may still have some genetic link to Mungo Man and therefore have evolved entirely separately (until interbreading) which would be interesting but nonsense I think as they have no genetic link to Homo Erectus.

anyway....

all part of the great hamburger of life.

Thanks ptw.

I really wish we knew the answer to where we all came from. How many of us were there that strated the human evolution? Where was the beginning?

We will probably never know, unfortunately.

Does it seem as much to you folks as it does to me, that we seem to be existing in a great treasure hunt, where pieces of information are slowly meted out for our discovery, progression and development, but that we are never meant to find out the whole lot?

interesting...it reminded me of a line from the Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy about the Bable fish which you put in your ear and it automatically translates any language into your monther tounge....

God: I refuse to prove that I exist...says God...as proof denies faith and without faith I am nothing.

Man: Ah....says man...but the Bable fish is a dead giveaway isn't it. It is impossible to think that such an incredibly useful animal could have evolved quite from chance.

God: Oh...I never thought of that...says God...and promptly vanishes in a puff of logic.

Man: Oh.. that was easy says Man... and goes on to prove that Black is White and get killed on the next Zebra crossing.

Don't treat this as a joke. If I recall correctly (that part of my brain is usually a bit dodgy) there was a documentary on the ABC a few years ago about findings of evidence of mungo man coming mainly from a site near Lake Eyre in...

SOUTH AUSTRALIA!!!!

Is this the Mungo Man that was celebrated in song by the Village People ?

If Mungo Man was from SA, can the Mullet be traced back to this time ? I'm pretty sure that the Mullet was mentioned in Genesis ( or was it Exodus ) ... anyway one of those films ( or is it music ).

Maybe Easty could be called DE-EVOLUTION, maybe Easty is devolving, kinda like melting, back through various stages of man, the first part that devolves is the brain, which naturally meant Easty was in big trouble from the word go, after all, how much brain power can a person with the IQ of his shoe size, really afford to lose?

Maybe Easty is linked somehow to DEVO, maybe Devo created Easty in some secret lab in Melbourne, and released him to breed in a pure environment like Adelaide?

The progeny would be curious, what would they look like, after all, the female is EVOLVING, and Easty is DEVOLVING, could the offspring be pop singers?, could it be some hybrid arachnid, will we ever truely know?
