I got Mungo's latest offering off a brother-in-law for christmas, its a book about the last election, on the back it has classic description of the rodent.
"Over his thirty years in politics John Winston Howard has attracted many nicknames. The one that I like best is The Stonefish, a sluggish and rather stupid predator with neither flair nor dash, which waits for its prey to come to it and then kills by treachery. And, time after time, it gets away with it. The secret, of course, is in its appearance:as the name implies it resembles a rock resting in the sand of the sea bed, totally harmless and ordinary, even boring. But behind the innocuos disguise it is one of the most poisonous and lethal creatures on earth. The trouble is that by the time the victim realises the trouble he's in, it's too late; he is at best stupified and at worst beyond help.
Ian Fitchett, a no-nonsense journalist of the old school, despised John Howard but recognised his persistense. " that Johnny Howard," he once boomed from the old Non-Members Bar, "is like an unflushable t**d- you know the one that floats around on top of the toilet bowl. You keep pulling the chain and just when you think you've finally got him around the S-bend, the bastard bobs back up again"
perfect description IMO, I've only read about 40 pages but one thing I was surprised about is how Steve Waugh thinks he's a tosser as well, here I was thinking Waugh was one of his mates and the truth is Waugh had to be sociable just because he was the PM, I never thought much of Steve Waugh but he has gone way up in my estimations.
