Elly Warren was in Mozambique on a six-week trip where she was volunteering her time working alongside scientists for research company Africa Underwater prior to commending her Marine Biology studies at James Cook University.

During her time in Mozambique, Warren stayed in a bungalow that was a part of Casa Barry, a popular diving resort at Tofu Beach.

On the Tuesday night November 8th 2016, Warren went out with some friends to celebrate the end of the program. On the Wednesday morning, her body was discovered by a fisherman near a toilet block in Tofo, face down in the sand.

Mozambique investigators have been accused of a cover-up after initially claiming Elly died of a drug overdose when it was discovered there were no drugs in her system. They also claimed there was no evidence of an assault or rape.

Elly's father has been very active enlisting the help of Bill Shorten at one point, in an attempt to have Mozambique declare the progress of their investigations. Bill Shorten called for diplomatic action from the Australian government as it related to Warren's death

Her Dad has also travelled to Mozambique on his own inquiries. He was able to trace her last steps, left a notice requesting information and within 24 hours was handed a photo of Elly with proof of cuts and heavy bruising around her neck and most likely sexually assaulted due to the state of her torn clothing.

The official cause of Elly's death, autopsy later conducted in Melbourne was mechanical asphyxiation and breathing in sand. The sand however, was a golden yellow, the kind found at the beach and not the black sand around the toilet block. Elly was moved after death.

Victorian Coroner Darren Bracken has determined to hold an inquest. Four years later.

Meanwhile Elly's dad accuses the AFP of withholding information.
