News Murph wins AFLCA award, Judd second

I posted it last year so its not sour grapes. .. The AFLCA Award should be given the same light as the Brownlow. .. In fact you could even combine the two awards into an ultimate reward if you wanted to. .. ie. Brownlow winner, AFLCA Winner and then AFLCA votes + Umpire Votes = AFL POTY Award. .. They could call it the Chris Judd Medal

Have less respect for the AFLPA MVP (Leigh Matthews) Medal. .. Not because of the players but its voted on in one hit at the end of the year and it seems to be influenced by the media hype around certain players at that time of the year. ..

I do wonder how many here lauding the AFLPA and AFLCA awards pumped up the Brownlow award last year, similar to the back flips by some at Collingwood on the award. ..

Players MVP and Coaches Award should be higher than the Brownlow. Really the only good thing about the Brownlow is the dramatic countdown on the night...and even that can be boring at times.

Also in the players MVP you can only vote for players outside your own club.

But well done Murphy and Judd and really the whole team. Played great this year and would've finished top 4 almost any other year. A flag is genuinely on the horizon!!!!

Going back to 2008, Collingwood players gave Franklin a total of 18 votes and 20 from Carlton, far below what every other club gave him. It was the same year he had an altercation with Jack Anthony and the same year he and Fev competed for the Coleman, culminating in that final round clash.

Brisbane voted for Ryan Lonie as the most courageous player some years ago. He's not the most courageous player in the league.

The players don't take it seriously enough and are too effected by late season media favourites to make it an overly credible award. Fortunately they get the winner right most years but you'd think the coaches and umpires put a little (read: a lot) more effort into it than the players do.

Rather than suggesting this award means everything and ones we didn't win mean nothing, I think this is a product of the scoring system as well as Murphy's fantastic season. He polled an awful lot of 1s on Brownlow night, which won't win you a Charlie, but those become scores like 6 and 7 in the Coach's Award and that WILL win you the award.

He's had a wonderful season, and the umpires took notice too. Like Swan last year the umps usually need a season to take notice, before they heap the 3s on you.

Great award for Murphy to win, though. He is an incredible player, and arguably better than I'd ever hoped he'd be.

He's surpassed my expectations of him. Always been a fan and expected him to be a multiple time AA, but doubted he'd be a top 2/3 midfielder in the competition as he's been this season.

Now for Gibbs and Kreuzer to follow suit.

Not sure it's possible for Bryce to surpass my expectations of him, but.

Players MVP should be regarded as lower then the herald sun award, they ask every player at the end of the season to vote on who they thinks better. This award should basically be renamed, "In case you forgot, the brownlow favourite is ....."
