Just heard today on the news that Ryan Murphy and David Mundy have resigned until the end of 2008. It's really good news for the club to be able to sign both of the Victorian boys up for another 3 years. Murph said that he was stoked with how he had been treated at the club, but was not happy with his footy so far this year. Mundy looked good in the preseason games we played, he used the ball very well and had the quality of never looking rushed or out of control, but he still looks a bit light.

With Parker retiring at the end of this season, you would hope that they give Mundy a go at some stage during the season. Either way I think it's a really good move by the club to sign them up early. I think of the 2003 draftees, those two have the most potential to come into the team and actually make a difference.

whats mundy like? I haven't seen him play before.. what position does he play?

good news for murphy.

Great news for fremantle. Those two will be in the best 18 for years to come. Im still waiting for Murphy to be left at FF for a whole quarter. The kind of grace a 180cm Paul Medhurst gets week in week out. But enough about that.

Good news for the club. Now just wish CC would ***** play Murphy. Give him some game time and as a minimum in the FP as another tall. The kid knows how to kick a goal and has some size. Medhurst as a FF - what a joke.

Don't say I didn't warn you.

On a contract note regarding your club, from what I've heard, you're just about to re-sign both Murphy and Mundy for a further 3 years through to 2008. Although both were apparently unsure and somewhat unwilling to put pen to paper initially, you've won out in the end and both are content with their deals. Look out for an announcement in the next few days/weeks.

Interesting that Dunn hasn't signed yet. He has always truck me as not totally comfortable at Freo. Can't say why... just a feeling. Anyone know if he is out of contract at the end of the year?

I could see him returning to Victoria.

Suprised by the 3 year year part of the contracts as I don't think they have shown enough to warrant such deals.

Mundy played solidly for Subi last year and performed well in the pre season before injury.

Murphy had a good run at Souths last year, he just needs more time on the ground rather than the pine. I reckon he needs to either be played for a half plus or go back to Souths to get some game time.

Streaker, just remember that precedents have been set by offering extended contracts to players like Beeck and McD.... in their early years.

Are newly drafted players on 2 year contracts?, if so they are just extending the investment in their development. For my money the players are drafted too young, put the drafting age up 12 months.

I;m echoing everyine elses sentiments here - play Murhpy for more than ********ing 5 minutes at FF!!! If he does SFA we won't be any worse off and it'll benefit us in the long run.

Beeck was promoted off of the Rookie list and is in the 2nd year of his 1st contract (and probably his last). As all players promoted are given 2 year contracts as part of the AFLPA, I hardly think this constitutes an extended contract.

Yes unfortunately new players are on 2 year contracts.

This is the first I've heard about Parker retiring at the end of this season?? Any truth to this or just a rumour?

Mundy was recruited as a key defender but at 189cm is more of a half back flanker at AFL level. Good poise, reasonable pace and a superb kick. Sometimes lacks accountability though. Playing in a dominant Subiaco line up this is rarely punished by the opposition but could be exposed at the highest level. If you want a reference to a current player, maybe Adam McPhee.

I think it's his baby face that makes him look a long term prospect. He's only a couple of kilos lighter than Thornton and Polak but looks about 14 years old in team photos.
