Guys my opinion for what its worth
MM is quality young player and will go on and player 200 games of AFL, bar injuries etc.The time that Ive seen him play he was similar to Power in Bribane or Stevens(Capt.) at the Roos, he gives great value in his efforts in that he reads the play,is aware of those around him and brings others into the play. He contiually contibutes to inbounding the ball forward and is brave.Similar To young GAJ usually gets the ball away when tackled. Anyone who doubts the worth of of this type of player should look at the effort that the Lions put into keeping Power.
Now one might question his worth of #1. The player any club choses is always a balance of their needs and the player on offer. He was worthy of a top5 position no doubt and I presume the Blues weighed the best possible tactic to get get the two players the most wanted. In two or three years you will be very happy with the pick im sure.
Agree with that. We needed a midfielder and he was the best available as a pur midfielder. A couple of players maybe have a little bit more potential but Marc was the surest and safest best. Knowing we were going to take a tall at 4 meant we wanted a midfielder at 1 if there was one available.
Ellis is playing as a half back flanker, Jones and others had a few question marks on there speed, body type, kicking and so on. Mrac had no such queries apart from being shortish. He uses the ball well, tackles well. has good pace and can run and carry the ball. Is a very good clearance player who knows how to read a tap out. Very good character and a hard trainer and a natural leader.
So we get a player who has had 2 very good years in the TAC, 2 very good Championships at the U18s. Needs to get bigger and stronger and to keep working on his kicking but he does not have to be taught how to play the midfield. He knows that already and he will at worst be a very solid AFL on baller.
We went safe with Marc and Josh and took no chances. I am happy with that.
