Considering you are the only one to think this, would you care to share as to why Murphy is so far ahead?

Because I'm allowed to have an opinion and I love the way Murphy plays.

I really don't get all these threads comparing Cotchin to various stars of the game. All these other guys he has been compared to are established stars of the competition. Meaning they have played quality footy year after year like a Murphy, Pendlebury, Watson.

Cotchin's form last season is just one season, do it for 2-3 more seasons then comparison with established star players of the comp is warranted.

Firstly, I tend to get defensive when someone gets offensive. Read your own posts.

Secondly, wrong except/accept usage. Not going to hold that against you.

Cotchin is far superior in the air and his 2012 compares very well with murphy a best season and Cotch did it without the assistance of a gun Judd.

Well then Cotchin isn't very good as a ff and doesn't turn games on their heads or take massive contested marks against much bigger opponents most weeks then.

Put Murphy at ff for most weeks and I'm sure he'll luck out a couple of times as well.

I don't think Murphy has ever had the need to play out of FF though. He can run out games all year long and has a pretty durable body. He is a gun around the goals still and is actually pretty good overhead for his size.

I recall when Cotchin went forward against the Blues he did well, but his opponent was Marcus Davies. Hell, Jeffy Garlett would outmark Marcus Davies.

Exactly Cotchin still has a bit to go to be rated against some of the proven stars and for that reason i voted Murphy...

You mean, that Murphy has never been called on to display.

I actually agree with Taleoftwotitans here, that if plonked there himself Murphy may well have a couple of good games like Cotchin did. We don't know because it hasn't happened. What we do know is that Murphy gets into the goals more than Cotchin from further afield and is more than reasonable over his head, although granted probably not as good as Cotchin. This suggests to me that if called upon to do so, he could well have a couple of decent days out, particularly if drawing defenders the likes of Marcus Davies.

Secondly, you've just been having a whinge when anyone doesn't say Cotchin is better. Not just with me but with everyone. Every post.

Lastly, most good midfielders who are given a heavy stint in the forward line produce from time to time. Beams, swan, bartel, Lewis, hodge, dangerfield, Watson etc. Murphy would be no different.

Murphy's also a much much better set shot.

What about 2011. B&F, top 10 AFLCA, 15 Brownlow votes, and that was his first full season with his first ever preseason. 2012 was no one off. Give him some credit.

I suppose if you play at a high level one year, start the next season at that same high level, get injured midway through and miss a third of the season then return for the last part and aren't quite playing at that same level but still higher then most, all the great footy you've played the previous years and even earlier that year is easily pushed aside.

Murphy as he's done it for longer. His 2011 was equal to Cotchins 2012. And Murphys 2012 was looking great before injury.
