To be honest, I never meant this thread to be an attack on Murphy as a player. He just doesnt seem like a great leader.

Really good player who I think is being weighed down by captaincy. Rough spot for the bloke, if he stays he gets lambasted like this thread, if he leaves he'll cop Griffen style vitriol!

Cotchin isn't a great captain either, but at least he's taken his side to the finals twice in a row.

I just don't understand what Murphy does.

Should always have been Simpson, we don't even need hindsight to have known that.

They have a superior list. He would be one of the worst captains ever if they didn't make the finals in those years.

Both Murphy and Gibbs are highly overrated. Neither are match winners.

I started at thread about Murphy and Gibbs, Cotchin and dilidio after round 1 discussing that while these guys are their teams best players I Can't see their respective teams beings successful. The Thread was shut down.........

Give the captaincy to Kade Simpson.

He should have been captain in the first place.

Murphy works hard and is a very good player when he gets the chance to shine. But he has zero physical presence and is better utilised as a support midfielder. The second possession player who can move it from congestion out into open space. Or the hard working link up man since he's quick and has decent footskills.

But Carlton have structured their entire midfield around him and made him Captain. Boggles the mind. It'd be as if we named Sidebottom as our Captain and structured our midfield around him.
