My understanding is that Tom Murphy is a defence captain, just like Roughy used to be the captain of the forwards. Probably another concept Clarko borrowed from NFL (they have captains for offence, defence and special teams). This will explain why, as one poster earlier in the thread so derisively stated, Murphy spends a great deal of time pointing fingers - he's doing the job he's being asked to do.
I humbly suggest to those supporters who don't like Murphy being in our team - get used to it - he'll play his 100th game for Hawthorn next year.
