Clubs talk about second tier ...

sport/2019/08/07/734841/six-club-discuss-in-second-tier-mfl
Interestingly the shepp news article has the tungamah vice president claiming they have been invited to join the picole league which i believe is incorrect.. As is the continual claiming of specific clubs from other leagues wanting to join a break away competition , which has been going since 2015. Unfortunately for the clubs involved or implied, publicity creating uncertainty is not great for attracting or maintaining members. Anything less than a 8 team comp would be a disaster and unsustainable.

Exactly. Eight has to be the minimum.

If just one team is precariously placed in a seven-team competition (whether on or off the field) then the other six clubs start get worried about their futures.

When that league does drop to six (historical examples being the Benalla league or the Waranga North East which I think was down to five in its last year after Seymour went to the GVL) then they attract strong scrutiny at AFLV and AFLGM levels and in many cases the remaining clubs end up in a league they don't want to be in (e.g. Yea, Alexandra).

How do you determine that kyabram and picola have clubs struggling yet murray don't ?

More say clubs are struggling on the bases of the population of the towns in the league and with the ongoing farming problems, which will force people to have to leave for work, which then has a domino effect and therefore little clubs like blighty, yarroweah, etc can potentially struggle, I’m not saying that will, but there is the potential there for it to happen. Not critical of the football standard or anything before you take things too personal...

Its an interesting sitaution , because I would suggest that the largest growing population area in the aflgm region (shepparton) is having the largest decline in player numbers and specifically transitioning players from junior to seniors. Is that due to more alternatives , alternate sports, available in that area ?
Interestingly and I understand they were only examples but for what its worth I believe Yarroweyah and Blighty are in the strongest position, due to junior numbers , that they have probably been in 10-15 years. With stability I think they will only grow.
I have a differing opinion in that the biggest need , if there is one , is for a promotion/ relegation league between the gvl and mfl standards of footy.

Great to see the ex pdfnl clubs love being part of the MFL. Other than shepp east it all worked out for them in the end. Very close to getting the magic number for the second comp.

Then why the wish for change ?
Plenty of ex mfl clubs have enjoyed the Pdfnl for many years.

Don't give Echuca United any hope ?
They now have to beat Nathalia in a prelim to get there. I just can’t see it happening. It’s a bit unfortunate they can’t play them in the granny, as I thought they were the biggest threat.

Great result for the roaders well done, what on earth happened to United? Injuries? Complacency?

A win to remember for Tonny this arvo I hear havent been in a GF for 28 years & think im also correct in having read they havent won o ne for 35. Were 20 points down with 10 minutes to go and won by a point. Heartbreaking for Numurkah who have been Runners Up and Prelim finalists the past 3 years now. Nathalia will be a mighty big mountain to climb but Tonny can dare to dream they will have huge support.

Who are people tipping in the big one?

My tips:
Seniors - Nathalia by 37pts and Adam Jorgensen BOG
Reserves - Rumbalara by 18pts
Thirds - Rumbalara by 21pts
Fourths - Deni Ram by 11pts

Good luck to all playing this weekend.
