Rumour has it Lads that Echuca United are going to be a real force this year, Apparently have signed some good players and are flying confidently under the radar!!! Anyone want to add to this???
They got beat by Lockington quite easily last saturday and i'm sure the top MFL sides are stronger than the top HDFL sides:rolleyes:

You didn't see much of LBU last year then I'm guessing. Very even side with few weaknesses and not much turnover.

United will challenge for top four. Only lost a couple of senior players and gained stacks. Will have great depth.

Don't discount Moama either. Lost a lot of quality, but could be a player in finals, depending how well the new players gel.

Tips in bold for the first round of footy this weekend, lots of tough games should be a ripper to set things off:
Moama v united -3 goals
Nathalia v tonny -5 goals
Toc v Congupna - 10 goals
Barooga v cobram - 7 goals
Mulwala v rumba - 7 goals
Deni v Finley - 3 goals

Should be a great start!!

I hate united but united will SMASH Moama........8 goals plus !!!!

Was reading that Tongala have been asked to move away from their navy blue jumper and that wearing a clash strip against Numurkah is not enough.

Perhaps they could wear Echuca style jumpers, green with their existing white TFC monogram. That would mean that connection could live on. The Tonny Primary School wear green shirts IIRC.

Not sure of the nickname they'd adopt.

Obviously the league allowed them to go back to wearing the navy blue except for the Numurkah game, and now they have changed that ruling, so what happens in two years time and the people on the executive change again and they see fit to allow Tongala to wear navy blue again, the TFC monogram supposedly has to change as well!!

Usually when a club enters a league and they have a jumper clash issue it is resolved on admittance. This situation seems very odd.

Was at this game.....United played ok....Moama very ordinary.....their recruits in Valentine, Beard and Kilmartin should hand their match payments back. Wilson was good down back, their ruckman was ok but needs to get fit. United was best served by Dalzeil, beattie and prendergast....to wrap it up.....big crowd......s**t footy !!!! ;)

So no one stopped beattie then? any other noteable players perform or not perform? Also cobram had a big first round loss

Have to agree moama Very ordinary, was a bad game to watch really, alot of turnovers from the two sides. Both team just kicking the ball to space rather than hitting up a team mate might have been because they both didn't have a genuine full forward playing hard to see Echuca or Moama pushing the top teams this year, Echuca's better players Bettie Priest and Dalziel Moama's Sellings and Wilson

Very hot day... Cobram's fittness was way down on what it should be. Ozzie started well with 5 by half time I think. but well done by Robbo, changed tactics and blitzed the stoppages. Cobram really do have to get a lot fitter if they wanna be up there this year. JLo was quiet as was bongo. Svarc had a big game. Willow started well until a cheap shot in the first and was a little timmed after that. Hyde and crapp had a good day under the circumstances, But Wollington's Knee in the first was a major blow as he looked like he was going to have a big influence.
Well done to Robbo and the Barooga boys, cant wait for the rematch, Ozzie will be a little fitter next week with all that weight off his shoulders......;) :D

Robbo wouldve been unstoppable if the result was the other way...........;-)

just joined up recently to have a read on other opinions, but had a look at the united v moama on friday, really hot day, pretty topsy turvy footy with alot of mistakes, moama could of easily been in front going into the 3rd but uniteds class took control in the end, big ruckman dalziel really hurt in the first half with some goals to keep united in front, then bettie, priest and the other on ballers kicked big goals in the third to take the match away, both teams look like they'll struggle to compete for a finals spot let alone top 3-4, moama seemed very very young with only 2 or 3 players playing good games, No.12 wilson was solid down back and up forward, No.9 sellings ran harder then most all day and kept them in it in the first half, both had good games but apart from that it looked pretty ordinary, any other thoughts on other results from the weekend, whos the team to beat?

Went and watched the good Friday game between Cobram and barooga. Was a pretty even match before big McGee took the game away from Cobram by sheer dominance. It was a good win by barooga though, even though they carried on like they won the grand final. Big Osborne had a great first half kicking 5 or 6. One little thing I dont like seeing is people on the sidelines dishing it out to the players on the ground.
Other then that well done to both teams on a great day of football
Cheers.

Was at the Deni /Finley game on saturday night. Saw a great game of football despite lots of skill errors. A typical Deni Finley contest, tight and hard football. The boys would have appreciated the conditions too, being a night game in cooler temps. Too early to say how these two teams will go this season, but Finley will test most teams. Deni are young and fit as usual. Hopefully both clubs can go well like last year.
One thing amazed me (hopefully big kev can shed some light) Why did Finley play Sexton ? Got about 4 kicks sheep dogging, spent a huge amount of time on the bench, and the one time he got his own ball, he gave away a stupid free kick trying to elbow the 16yr old tackler. Costing the team that went down by two points, a goal. The Finley seconds had two red hot young blokes playing that won the game for them. Why not play them ? There the future, not Sexton.

i think the top six is spot on there, but all teams in top 6 could finish anywhere at this stage, numurkah, echuca, congupna and possibly moama (not sure) could push for a spot to if they get lucky with the draw, seem's like its gunna be an interesting and close year!!

tocumwal and tongala... scored 1 goal 3 pts... and 2 goals 8 points.. respectively in 20 goal plus losses. This is not a pretty picture for both the clubs and the league.

any chance of matty thornton heading back to numurkah soon... finsihed uni last year in bendigo.....? i heard he was keen to get back to his old club

Went and seen purples play moama today, seen moama last weekend and same thing happened, really competitive up untill the 3rd. Nathalia looks good when there in front but moama gave them a scare up untill the 3rd, Davies kicked 8 goals as a midfielder/small forward and atkins dominated for them across the middle! For moama they were led out of defence well by Aaorn wilson, provided great contest and run, while Sellings run all day and found a heap, playing another outstanding game for a young player. Beard, grant and Eade all got beaten with the likes of davies, gemmil lucas and daniels all very solid! Interesting to see that united also won against cobram, which would be considered an upset!!
