Moama Football Club has adopted a new approach as it heads into next season and beyond, with the club appointing two new leaders.
Last season's senior coach Shannon Keam will be joined in the role by Magpies player Luke Eldridge, as the club adopts a co-coaching system, with the pair set to share the load and take a more active involvement with the club.
Echuca-Moama identity Alan Green has taken the reigns as president and is looking to take a firm stance as leader of the club.
Keam, who joined the club 12 months ago from Sunraysia club Robinvale, led Moama to the finals last season after the side finished as the minor premier, dropping only one game for the home-and-away season.
Eldridge, who has played with Moama for around five seasons, moved to the area from Dimboola in the Wimmera Football League, where Keam previously coached.
Keam, 29, and Eldridge, 25, played football together for a short time at Dimboola, before Keam moved to Robinvale and Eldridge re-located to Echuca.
"It'll be a challenge but it's a great opportunity for me and the next step in my career," Eldridge said of his appointment.
"Shannon and I have a good relationship from our days at Dimboola.
"Having co-coaches takes a bit of pressure off of Shannon, which will allow us to share the workload and dedicate more time to the club.
"We want to be close as a team and get a winning culture happening at the club."
Keam said although the finish to last season was disappointing, he learnt a lot from the experience and is looking forward to 2009.
"We will be taking a professional approach to next season and work to create a better on-field culture," he said.
"We want to develop our current players and foster and assist the development of the young blokes coming through the ranks."
Green brings to the club a wealth of knowledge and tremendous experience.
A former player, Green started his career in 1959, winning four senior premierships with the club in 1965, '66, '68 and '72. A full forward, he was a named in Moama Football Club's team of the century.
Green was club secretary in 1968, before switching to Echuca Football Club in 1969 for three years, then returning to Moama.
"I'm looking forward to working closely with Shannon and Luke," Green said.
"We want to make inroads and push hard to be a successful club.
"The new system will allow a closer association between the players and administration.
"The upcoming season is a good opportunity for some new faces to join the club, but I also want to encourage past players to become involved.
"The club facilities are some of the best you'll find anywhere. We have a great sporting environment in Moama and with a strong local culture, it will be a good place to be a part of."
Since his appointment, Green has been working tirelessly behind the scenes to secure the future of the club.
"The club is in good shape for 2009 and beyond," he said.
"We want to promote an overall family culture and ensure a disciplined approach both on and off the field.
"We're aiming to retain our current sponsors, attract new sponsors and increase our membership base.
"We're seeking long-term loyalty from all players who want to be a part of the club."
Green also said that the strength of the netball club was positive.
"We have enormous netball strength within the club," he said.
"We have around 80 netballers playing over eight grades and we're fortunate enough to have our netball executives - Kerryn Evans, Renee Campbell and Kelli Johns - working hard for the club."
Keam and Eldridge anticipate preseason training starting in early December to get a few sessions in before the Christmas break.

Former North Melbourne rookie and Moama Football Club livewire Djaran Whyman will play with the North Adelaide Football Club in the South Australian National Football League next season.
The 25-year-old recently signed a two-year deal with the club and will make the move to Adelaide within the next three weeks.
North Adelaide football manager James Moore said the club was happy to have acquired the services of Whyman.
"We're pretty excited about having Djaran come on board," he said.
"He's a small forward who can also play midfield and will add a lot of pace to the team.
"He's a pretty handy player and we've got a strong list and a new coach in Daniel Healy, so hopefully he (Djaran) will be an asset to the club."
Whyman will join good friend, former Echuca player, Morrison Medalist and Adelaide Crows listed player Rhys Archard at North Adelaide.
He will also join former Port Adelaide, Carlton and St Kilda player Cain Ackland, as well as fellow former North Melbourne listed player Ben Schwarze at the Roosters.
Whyman was recruited to Moama in the Murray Football League following his delisting from North Melbourne at the end of the 2007 season.
He enjoyed a strong season with the Magpies as skipper, with the side finishing as minor-premier, but going out in straight sets in the finals.
Whyman spent the season rotating between the forward line and the midfield, kicking 63 goals for the season and coming second in the club's bestand-fairest.

Re: Murray Football League - Part 2

oh i must of miss heard it on the radio wrong, that would be great if it happened would make the trip up to finley to watch that.

you'd think that a job in the media would be far too bigger carrot to be waved unfront of the now former premiership player for him to pull on the boots again . It would be good though .

Ps. are we likely to be introduced by jack Thompson in a future episode of finding family ? ;)

Re: Murray Football League - Part 2

A bit of new out of Deni, Holowboski is playing somewhere over in Albury and Bull is heading over to live in Perth. Both finished in the top 3 or 4 or the Rams best and fairest in 08 i think, so they are a couple of pretty big losses.

Re: Murray Football League - Part 2

Snelson has signed with the shepp swans, i wish him all the best has been a great bloke to have round the club and playing the last few years.

Re: Murray Football League - Part 2

Spoke to Billy on Thursday night - still unsure as to where he'll play next year. He'll still be at uni in Bendigo and will most likely stick with Sandhurst, although Parso has spoken to him.

Re: Murray Football League - Part 2

Mulwala must have the sh!ts. They had themselves convinced that Mick Stevens was only going to Benalla to have a year with his brother before coming back. News today he's signed with Yarrawonga. Mul paid big big $ to get him up to the area, he plays some injury interrupted seasons with them, then their cross river rivals grab him! Big man Justin McCabe also jumping ship to Yarra. This follows on from a couple of carloads of good players leaving them last season to join district clubs.

What's wrong at the Lions Den?

Re: Murray Football League - Part 2

Saw in the weekend's Border that Derek Murray has gone to Culcairn. Any of the Rumba boys confirm this? Is this considered a major loss for the club as he had an interrupted season this year? Not much happening up this end of the line. Pre season kicks off on Friday 28th of November for all those interested,

Big Hawk, how are you blokes looking recruitment wise? have all the shepp blokes resigned? is Mcnamara bringing anyone with him

Re: Murray Football League - Part 2

Not much news to report from the Eagles nest , Although former 2's coach Jase Lehmann has handed over the clipboard after four gruelling seasons to Troy Kornmann . It will be a new and exiting challenge for Animal as he learns the ropes and recovers from snapping his Achilles heal at the last training run for the year . Should be a interesting year as the pocket dynamo and wet tracker tries his hand at coaching :thumbsu:
