Apparently he didn't seem very remorseful at all in court a month ago so I'm not sure that a few weeks of training hard at AFL mean that he's rehabilitated.

Personally I think a long jail term won't help him (or most people) in that regard, but if he really isn't grokking the severity of his actions then I think a short jail term might act as something of a wake up call. Regardless of whether the guy he punched "deserved it" or not, he would have known that he was breaking the law and I have the strong suspicion he'll do at least some amount of jail time, or perhaps a very large amount of community service. If he has the discipline to actually do the latter then I think that's probably a better indicator of him be rehabilitated than him playing football.
 
I've watched the game 3 times over now, and i was very impressed by Murray's performance. He bobbed up everywhere and showed plenty of courage and craft. Will have a place in the 25 if he keeps that type of showing up.

Yep agree and i thought he had a some decent defensive skills in the forward line. Would love him to improve even more and become a forward with some Midfield time.

Without exploring the theory behind criminal law, as EP below your post suggests it's only one facet. It could have a severe negative effect on anyone that is face with imprisonment; AFL player or regular crack inhaling Joe.

We are looking at this through filtered eyes because he's a West Coast player but the point I was making is that why should it be any different to someone else who breaks the law or rules of their employ? I am assuming belting a bloke in personal time is not something condoned by his employer in addition to being contrary to the CCWA.

He'll no doubt be a handy player for the prison side, just like Krakouer was:).
 
I think there are some interpreting Newmans form in a blow out pre-season NAB game way too positively ...

In that side in that game I could have got a few kicks and looked ok. He didn't do a lot more than that. He was a high draft pick and he's in his third season - he didn't do anything particularly noteworthy and my summation post game was that he was a bit meh and we won't really miss him if he gets canned ...

And I've been a fan of him as a player ... but he's no Dayle Garlett :)

Embley and Chick were consenting adults (who would have undertaken boxing as part of their training) who had intended to have their most serious dust up under the supervision of the club. They were not impaired (well Chick might have been...) and from what I have read it was supposed to be a "fair fight".

Venezuela burns, as does Kiev, the Coalition opposing Bashar Al Asaad has fractured further with some coalition fighter bosses pulling out over the appointment of yet another moderate general, replacing the incompetent incumbant. Certainly doesn't bode well for Muzza.
 
What is interesting is two young WA AFL listed footballers being convicted of the same offence.

Was one any worst that the other?

Will they get similar punishments?

We will know Newman's fate first and only time will tell.

The CCTV footage of William's incident doesn't look too good, very hard to argue self defence when you come running out of the night club and belt a guy in the face. I wouldn't be surprised if the jury made their decision on the footage alone.

It would be interesting if one if one was aboriginal while the other wasn't (if their crimes were similar).
