I was in high school in the mid 90s so this era basically defined my love for grungey rock and its various derivatives. Hell I suspect most of my current ipod playlist is probably of bands that were big in that era or who idolised the same bands I did. Also gave me a chance to catch the tail end of some great Aussie rock acts from the 80s whose back catalogues I eventually got into.

I always loved Amazed + Change the World at the end of that album. They've been disappointingly hit and miss since that era - from Conspiracy of One to Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace there was always a smattering of good songs but never a good album. Days Go By was an improvement but there's a really crappy couple of songs in the middle... one of which was the lead single. Go figure.

California (Bumpin in my trunk)

******* awful that song. They need to step away from novelty songs. They did them well in the 90's, not a good hit rate since. Lightning Rod is the best song they've done since Americana

90s were epic. Much of my favourite music comes from there and it pretty defined my musical taste as that is when I grew up

Rage Against The Machine
Blink 182
Offspring
Pearl Jam
Metallica
Nirvana
Oasis
Blur
Faith No More
Soundgarden
Prodigy
Chilli Peppers
Bush
Foo Fighters

And back then because most of my exposure to music was through radio and I didn't have the money for albums there was a lot of singles bands like Bloodhound Gang, Regurgitater, Cranberries, Butthole Surfers, Cornershop, 28 Days, Living End, Powderfinger, Jebediah, Korn, Live, Silverchair.

There would be many more I've missed too.

One of the great things about growing up in the 90's is that I listened to Metallica's 90's stuff first and loved it, then discovered their 80's stuff and loved it even more, but retained a love of both era's. I can see how a lot of original Metallica fans dropped off.

Funnily enough probably the two bands I listen to most from the 90's now I didn't even listen to first until about 10 years - Tool and Neutral Milk Hotel.

I've probably forgotten so much too. I'm sure if I had a scan through my music collection I've found dig out more.

This one of the very first songs I ever downloaded. I don't know how I remember that but I do. Took about an hour to download on Napster. Pretty sure the drummer died from in accident 28 days a few years after.

And one more Aussie tune for good times.

Amazingly both those bands are still touring and making music. Well done to them :thumbsu: Beats working in an office.

The 90s were ******* brilliant for music IMO. For me it was a decade crammed full of hip hop and jungle/dnb, with sprinklings of techno, acid-house, trance, happy hardcore, and metal.

Nirvana killed 80s utensil rock (Poison, Motley Crue..) which is a good thing. No more ridiculous big hair and make up unless you count Cher's success.

Some random 90s singles I still play every now and then (some are corny);

If You Could Only See - Tonic
Return of the Mack - Mark Morrison
This is Your Night - Amber
The Freshmen - The Verve Pipe
Evidence - Faith No More
Too Close - Next
Falling - Julee Cruise
Kiss Me - Sixpence None the Richer
I'll Stand By You - Pretenders
Even When I'm Sleeping - Leonardo's Bride
Runaway - The Corrs
Sunny Came Home - Shawn Colvin
Casanova - Ultimate Kaos
Don't Call Me Baby - Madison Avenue
Your Woman - White Town
Push - Matchbox 20
The Drugs Don't Work - The Verve
Iris - Goo Goo Dolls
Sway - Bic Runga
Missing - Everything but the Girl
Only Wanna Be With You - Hootie & the Blowfish
Sinner - Neil Young

Texas (Say What You Want, Black Eyed Boy, etc.) is one of those bands that seems to have utterly fallen off the radar when talking about the era, but I recently went back and listened and didn't feel like it had aged well unfortunately.

Straight into a 90s spotify playlist :thumbsu:

Triple M in Adelaide just ran a competition where listeners could vote for the greatest year in music in a daily head to head type showdown. It ended up being between 1985 vs 1992 in the final with 1985 winning. But what this tells me that there is a thirst out there for 90's music, which Triple M or any other station (in Adelaide at least) rarely plays. I've looked at Triple M's ratings as well and their market share and it is bigger in the 25-39 age bracket than it is in the 55-64 age segment. (Its biggest by far is 40 to 54) So what this also tells me is that a significant portion of their market grew up with and or loves 90's music. They should broaden their play list to include more 90's.

Melbourne MMM now do ''battle against the 90's'' from 12-1pm and is just 90's music. 3 or 4 usual staples (pearl jam/nirvana/soudgarden) and some that you dont hear often. Been good listening.
