My first Livid wasn't till 97 at the RNA but that was still one of the greatest festival lineups of all time in my opinion.

I know a lot of people thought it lost its soul by moving to a bigger venue from Davies Park, but there was such a marked difference between Livid and to just 2-3 years later at Big Day Out. Livid had huge moshpits that were so friendly if there was a collapse, everyone working together to put you back on your feet, I felt safe as a 15 year old at my first concert, let alone festival. Just three and a half years later BDO moshpits were vicious, drunk ****wits were everywhere and if there was a collapse you had to get back to your feet yourself or risk being stomped on.

Agree entirely, Caiphus . BDO had some amazing line ups, but the crowds and the vibe never seemed as friendly.

Which is better? Peppers or MMT?

I'm gonna say MMT. I know history proclaims Peppers as a great album, which it is, but I feel like it's given extra credits for its change of direction in music at the time. It's undoubtedly revolutionary but honestly, who listens to it regularly over MMT or Revolver? I'll listen to both of those happily the whole way through but now skip pretty hard when listening to Peppers.

Great post! There can be no doubt that culturally Sgt.Peppers was monumentally important. If anyone wants to read an outstanding book on the cultural impact of that album (and an overview of 1967), it is hard to go past, Derek Taylor's,"It Was Twenty Year's Ago Today."

Musically, Sgt.Peppers was quite revolutionary and almost universally brilliant, with "Fixing a Hole" and the "Stereo" version of "She's Leaving Home" being the least compelling tracks. Comparing Peppers with Magical Mystery Tour is a little tricky, because Magical Mystery Tour is an album of two parts. Side A was the soundtrack (which was originally released as a Double EP) and Side B which was a collection of non album singles from 1967. The eleven track release we are most familiar with was only released in 1976. As far as Side A goes, four of the the six tracks there are equal to the best of Sgt.Peppers. "Magical Mystery Tour," "The Fool on the Hill," "Blue Jay Way" and "Flying" are great and "I Am the Walrus" is a masterpiece. The only low point is Paul McCartney's cheesy "Your Mother Should Know." Then we have Side B which shines because of "Strawberry Fields Forever" and "Penny Lane," which were actually the first two tracks recorded during the Sgt Pepper's sessions and released as a single before the release of the album. "Hello, Goodbye" is more McCartney fluff, harmless but not that inspiring, "All You Need is Love" is a tremendous Lennon peace anthem and "Baby,You're a Rich Man" is an underrated gem. Pound for pound, Magical Mystery Tour might just edge Sgt Peppers, but it isn't a fair fight. I've tripped to both and rate Magical Mystery Tour as better fun.

Then you have Revolver - which I think is actually the Beatles best album (if you forget the terrible song "Yellow Submarine" which I skip every time). Electric Acid Rock Par Excellence! This album is a monster!

Well I'm chuffed. The Painters and Dockers have quietly made their way on to Spotify, meaning I can easily get my ears onto some of their classics, Especially this gem which was a cover of a song from an episode of Get Smart.

I went to see them in Darwin in about 94. But got too pissed and didn't wake up until after the concert, which lead to an interesting night walking around Darwin at midnight while sobering up.

Lots of people bleeding.

Mind you TISM played one year at livid and that was super rough moshing. Vicious.

Yep, but a good selection none the less. You could throw in the Animals, Rolling Stones, Garry Puckett and union gap and jimmy hendrix. Love listening to Saturday night jukebox when I was a young fella

I still have-
Cat Stevens- Tea for the Tillerman (my favorite all time album, every song a classic). I still listen to this album regularly. When I first got my license in the late 1970s I did a solo road trip from Brisbane to Perth and it was one of the albums I listened to on tape the whole way there and back.

Mr MM is a Beatlesofficiado (his description, yes very sad!) ok at the time imo, and the above were all fantastic...and my mum 86 next week, is a huge CCR fan as I am too..

Thanks for the tip MM, just had a listen, pretty impressive stuff. I had heard Human before in the background but never had a good listen, had never heard Skin. Never heard of Rag n Bone Man until now either.
