Congratulations on your first child mate! Awesome! It will turn your world upside down but be the best thing to happen to you - until they start giving you attitude! Little smartarses!

Squires (jazz? ) are great to start with, I'm even considering getting one as a backup.

lol @ playing over the phone, great stuff!

A band - if the dudes are relaxed enough to just jam loosely, not too structured is the best way to learn hand in hand with lessons off the interweb - well that's how I learnt anyway.

Let me know if you want some learning sources & I'll PM them to you.

Not really into the old skool rock, but Enter Sandman used to get a good beating.
I got a funny taste, not absolutley set on one band/group/genre. (Except The Fratellis <3.)
My ipod, 419 songs by 209 artists. Average of 2. :p

Not blessed with musical talent, best i could churn out was mary had a little lamb on the recorder in grade 2. I was stoked. :thumbsu: Would love to learn something though. I reckon it would be the ultimate getaway sort of thing, like if everything is shit you can just go and play drums or piano etc. That would be awesome.

IllBeTheJudge can you beatbox through your flute?

yep
that'd be great!
I'm doing most of my learning thus far just off tabbed music, but I'm loving that I can find some bands that I already love (The Strokes, The Cure, Radiohead) and jam along with them

It's messy, but I feel inspired so will post a pic of my rig shortly :p

lol (or is that lulz? Nah, pretty sure it was only one laugh) I saw that link at work but I can't access YouTube from the office. We have it blocked

Nice one with the Marys! :thumbsu:
You aren't my downstairs neighbour by any chance who always misses the last note by 3 positions?? :D

Oh, and thanks! Yeah, we're pretty excited. Yet shit scared at the same time! :o

I said it was messy :)
But there she is. ANd I'm not only referring to the picture of my wife on my screen, that you can't really see anyway

Mehbeh.

Anyone up for a game of i spy? So much crap on that desk we could keep it going for at least 4 months. :D

Anyone know of any good mash ups?

If there's anyone interested in bootlegs of bands along the lines of: AC/DC, The Beatles, The Black Crowes, Bob Marley, Green Day, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Metallica, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, RHCP, U2, The White Stripes

- I found a goldmine:

http://www.themidnightcafe.org/

the list of bands is down the left. The site links off to rapidshare & megaupload sources, etc

i'm happy to see that my desk is not the only messy one in the world and also that i'm not the only person who likes a beer at the computer desk.:)
in re: metallica.... binge and purge box set is my fave but that is i think indicative of the fact that I enjoy live recordings more than studio recordings.
and leading on from that thankyou to BG for the link. I reckon that link and myself are to get acquainted sooner rather than later. I like bootlegs, alternate versions, rarities and that seems good.
.... for mash ups the only one I have is Dirty Bottle - dirty boots by sonic youth and genie in a bottle by christina aguilera... it's strange and i think i was tipsy when i d/loaded it.

Yeah, Metallica were a much better band live back in the day. Live Shit Binge & Purge is a great set. They released it at a pefect time as well, as after '93 they seemed to go downhill as their music became more mainstream, they played in front of massive crowds, rather than basketball stadiums and their music in general lost a bit of it's epicness.

I guess we can blame them being ****ed off their face on various drugs and alcohol before shows in the early 90s. Seemed to lose their amazing stage presence, and when Jason left they just lost all the agressiveness he brought. <3 Jason.

Would give my left nut to see them in Seattle, '89. Watching the vids on youtube, specially Whiplash and Creeping Death...

I was born 18 years late and on the wrong side of the world. :(

And to think all my crap has to be moved sooner rather than later. Or tidied at least

Will have to check the link BG. As usual, coming through with the goods all things musical :thumbsu:

i agree. Metallica have lost the edge that they had then. happens with age and i will still go and see them next time they tour but..... they lack the madness of "anything happening cos james is p!ssed and we're angry" that is evident in the seattle and mexico shows.

Anyone up for a new flavour? ;)

Numb/Encore goes alright too by JayZ & Linkin Park.
But the best i've got is The Police vs Snow Patrol, Every Car You Chase. Tops. :thumbsu:

Interesting email I got from Ticketmaster today ... John Farnham Live by Demand

Apart from his accountant, who's making these demands?
Can they freakin' well stop??
Surely we can find a better hostage negotiator?

i like :thumbsu:

actually if I had to think of a "mashup" i'd say the grey album by dangermouse comes to mind. (99 problems/what more can i say being standouts)

Does that qualify as a mash up though? i guess it does.

here's my two pence worth

Most listened to recently:
John Coltrane
Thelonious Monk
RATM
Sepultura
Miles Davis
Russell Brand Radio Show
Fatboy Slim (live set)
The chemical Brothers (live set)
Andrea Bocelli
Dropkick Murphys
Pogues

been giving Kind of Blue a fair old play lately :thumbsu:

in terms of instruments ... harmonica .... been teaching myself & the only tune I've mastered is "When the saints go marching in"

good form SG - my only disappointment is I really wish i had come across the album 10 or 15 years ago myself so i coulda enjoyed it longer.

So What is my favourite tune off the album, classic!
