You sign up online and then download a program that records everything you listen to on Windows Media Player and Itunes. You can also set it up with your Ipod. What's it all about brother?
You have a page online (http://www.last.fm/user/samgil thats mine) that shows everything you've listened to which is nice to have. Plus when people ask me what music I listen to I just send them to there because I hate trying to say.
Anyway, you can also see on the left of that page a neighbours tab. Every month or so you get "neighbours" that are people who have similar taste to you. This is the best way to find new music I find because you just look through their charts, see mostly artists you know but always a few that you dont. You get like 3 pages of neighbours so you are sure to find new songs/artists from their charts.
All of the artists also have their own page which is great. This has similar artists, the amount of times people have listened to them on Last.fm (I think the Beatles are still winning with about 200million), upcoming concerts, a bio about them, pictures, most listened to tracks, comment space for people to write and other stuff.
It's a great site, has more stuff than I've talked about. You should give it a go.
