Got some new-ish albums yesterday. Yes, I'm an album kind of guy ... (you miss out on so much if you only listen to singles)

The Subs - Decontrol
Not usually my kind of thing (same as Digitalism or Daft Pank usually isn't my normal thing. They're my techno-ish breakouts), but really like their "face of the planet" track and had heard a couple of others, thought it worth a crack

Ben Harper - Give Till It's Gone
This guy is genius. Get any album of his you can :thumbsu:
This one is his latest

Black Eyed Peas - The End
Haven't heard it yet (due to get a spin this afternoon, being "Album Friday" and all) but hey, it's BEP, how horrible can it be?

Bloc Party - A Weekend In the City
An oldie but a goodie. I really just needed the CD so I could play it in my wife's car. Not as good as Silent Alarm imo, but close

Karnivool - Sound Awake
A couple of years old now, but just needed something a bit harsher than the above. I needed to man up a bit after getting Black Eyed Peas :D

People still buy singles?

Can approve of Bloc Party's album.

Not much a fan of BEP's newest. Really liked their previous album so it was a bit of a let down.

Gonna have a look at the start of this thread to see what my taste was like back then :p

Been pumping the lastest Avenged Sevenfold album (plus all their older stuff) ahead of their tour in August...

Was at the Palace last night for some good old fashioned Warnambool screaming rock, a good fun night. Was leaning up against the bar, went to get some $ out of pocket & elbowed this poor little midget chick in the face. So I say "shit, sorry mate, yorrite?" & she starts pushing into my side, to no real effect, then the angry little human tries to steal one of my beers. A gentle hip sends her on her way. I collect the beers & head back to viewing position, a bit worried as I think those little munchkins bite!

Anyway, what gigs are coming up for everyone?

Desperately wanted to go to Splendour but don't really have the money...

Haven't been to a gig since Muse and Metallica last year. Admittedly I think I could die happy with those two bands as my last two gigs.

But yeah, really should see some local bands even...

I was more thinking that people would download a single from iTunes, rather than buy an album

I haven't seen any bands since Metallica last year. Wanted to get to Blues and Roots at Easter, but didn't have the cash at the time

So now just looking forward to Modest Mouse

And what was on offer there BG?
A local band with some original stuff, a cover band, or someone we may have vaguely heard of?

Heres something Metallica fans might be interested in :)

Which gig were you at?

And wow, Metallica monopoly...I don't even...

I can't remember the date (other than being in November) but it was in Sydney

Acer Arena isn't exactly the best place to see a band, but they were still pretty good. Us old blokes enjoyed the older songs being belted out

Probably the one song with the most enthusiastic crowd participation was Master of Puppets

Oh sweet, yeah Rod Laver was pretty good I guess. I haven't been to a lot of gigs but it seems to go as good as anything heh.

Yeah we got a real mixed bag in Melbourne. Was certainly not expecting I Disappear, Turn the Page and The Memory Remains and while I thought they could have picked a few better songs (Creeping Death, Bells and God I would have died if they played Whiplash) it was still amazing and I enjoyed every song, probably cos I realised this might be the last chance I ever get to see them live heh.

Fade to Black almost made me cry too, beautiful moment in my life :D

And Kirk doing the solo to One a metre away from us (hells yeah front row)

Yah, one of the best nights of my life.

Got my bestfriend and myself tickets for Kings Of Leon for her birthday.. (thats right, i'm a perfect bestfriend.)
They were really expensive but got great seats and am pretty pumped, loveeee Kings of Leon! :D

Nah, there are a lot of venues that are better
I'd rather head to the Espy to see a band than go to somewhere not truly built for sound. I've not been to Rod Laver Arena to see a band mind you (only to watch the tennis!) but figure it's similar to Acer Arena (which was kind of at least purpose built for shows, but still doesn't quite cut it)

I like going to pubs / smaller venues, and places like The Horden in Sydney where there is basically no seating. Saw Them Crooked Vultures and The Strokes there, and they were both awesome. Just has a better atmosphere in those kinds of places too

I remember years ago seeing Skunkhour at a bar / nightclub type venue in outer south Sydney surburb, and they had the whole place jumping. To this day, one of the best gigs I have ever seen

I must say I like it, but I think part of that comes with our own expectations. You expected more and were disappointed, yet I expected little so I have been pleasantly surprised!

I like taking over threads :p

Can't remember if it has been discussed in here before, but anyone remember the first album they bought?

The first vinyl (yes, vinyl) I ever bought (with the help of a birthday gift voucher) was Kids in the Kitchen. I downloaded their CLASSIC "Change in Mood" not long ago :)

The first CD I bought was Midnight Oil's 10-1

Oh, and here are two that I have been looking for:
Pretty tempted to join up BigPond's music and buy/download The Boys Next Door. Their song "Shiver" is indeed a classic, that The Screaming Jets did a pretty good job of covering

And also, something that was only ever released on cassette ... an INXS album ... name escaping me ... but basically a remixed version of their album Listen Like Thieves. Starts with D .... sounds like .... help me out here ... good ol' Google, Dekadance

Bumps 4 Bobby McFerrin.

Supposed to be studying, but procrastination wins.

Bobby McFerrin - Don’t Worry, Be Happy
Jason Mraz - I’m Yours
Israel Kamakawiwo’ole’s (Yeahh I spelt that) - Somewhere Over The Rainbow

This is my jam, gotta find my uke now.
Happiest song ever?

*Might not be up the metal heads alley. ;)

Hahaha, the story of us finding the line-up was amazing.

First a friend starts talking about it and we wonder if the lineup has been announced. Then he looks it up, finds some random (dodgy) website listing SOAD, Slipknot, Machinehead, Trivium et al. and we lose our collective shit.

Realise it says 'hopeful' or 'possible' line up. Un-lose our shit.

Check on facebook, and the lineup had literally been announed 2 minutes prior, and it was the correct line up. Lose shit even more hardcore.

Realise we can't make Melbourne. Cry deeply.

Buy tickets to Sydney.

Can't ****ing wait!

Way back on Australia Day 2012 I was challenged to come up with the best opening line(s) to a song

Actually, challenged a week or two before that, had to deliver on Australia Day

Anyway, my wife and I put our heads together and came up with something we both agreed upon, from an album we both love

Found out on the weekend just passed that we won the pseudo contest and are going to receive a bottle of wine as a prize! :thumbsu: Didn't even know there was a prize ...

Anyway, here it is:
I don't know my telephone number
But you kiss good, and I'd like to see you tomorrow

From:
Nonfiction by The Black Crowes (album Amorica)
Highly underrated band IMO

Anyone got any pearlers of opening lines to a song?

This is a chant for all the fellas, trying to do what those ladies tell us.

Young MC, Busta Move

"A monk with a hard-on and a lavender robe"

Alter Boy by Rickie Lee Jones

That's pretty hard to beat ... :D

Both Riewoldt and Montagna were having a yak and a giggle about the music at Metricon last week during the warm-up.

"Is that Roxette?"

It certainly was:

Here's a good serving of unbattered swedes fellas
