Some imbecile lit a fire at the Water Board (whatever it's now called), Reservoir in Frankston South. They had two helicopters and lots of people fighting the fire. Within six streets of suburbia, and out of control.

They couldn't have people inside the space of the reservoir, because they had no way of knowing which way the fire was going and they couldn't commit to having people in the fenced perimeter of the reservoir. They had to use helicopters. The fire happened at about 11AM this morning and seemed to be under control. It flared under the influence of the northerly in early afternoon. By 4PM, people living in a suburb of Melbourne had a wildfire on their back doorstep.

I hate this time of year in Melbourne. We are probably in the top three areas in the world for susceptibility to bushfires. I never wan't to hear another Melburnian bitch about a day and a half of rain, in the middle of seven years of drought.

If we ever get it.

I work up in Lysterfield at a boarding kennel and the fires were right up the hill from there. We had to evacuate all the animals until it was safe.

Ever tried to house 40 cats in one bedroom before?

Chaos.
