Some key points:
-Easter Round is Round 2.
-Giants open with two away, low-key games before things really begin to heat up.
-I've done the floating round in Round 22 as opposed to allocating timeslots for Round 22.
-Split Round is Round 12.
-Collingwood v Carlton to open season rather than Richmond v Carlton.
-Ninth timeslot is the Saturday twilight game.
-I've included additional Thursday night and Monday night games.

The major reason I created this is because I wanted to gain a feeling of what creating a fixture would be like, and in addition to this I was bored and had some time on my hands. I realise it is not completely 'fair', as I've retained all major blockbusters (Queens Birthday, ANZAC Day etc.) except for the season opener. I've also given some teams more blockbusters than others. Anyway, feedback/criticism is much appreciated, will attempt to change something if I've made a mistake or if you suggest so.

The AFL have said that there will be one bye next year, probably a split round. To avoid any complaints of unfairness (eg. Geelong played x number of teams coming off the bye), if there is a split round, teams that have the bye in the second week should be scheduled to play each other the following week.

*Sydney will not play home games at ANZ anymore (Unless all Sydney derby games are forced to be played at ANZ, but I can't see that happening). ANZ Stadium is in Western Sydney. There is little point for the Swans to play home games there now as there is a Western Sydney team. Hence why the Giants will play 3ish home games at ANZ next year.

Criteria I would include would be:
- every team must visit every state which have a full time team (all 5 mainland states) at least once
- every team must play on the MCG at least three times
- no travel twice in successive weekends (either side of the split round week off is fine)
- agree that teams coming off, and leading into, their week off in the split round (effectively a bye) play each other the weeks before and after their week off
- teams play each other in the first 17 rounds; ideally the remaining five rounds would repeat the opening five
- every team must have at least two Friday night games, hosting at least one
- no team to host more than one Sunday twilight (except WA sides, where the 4:40 eastern timeslot is 2:40 and almost a normal Sunday afternoon slot anyway)
- season opener to be the premiers hosting runners-up
- no Sunday/Friday turnarounds
- no team is to play away games at the same part-time ground in successive years (eg Freo can't be in Launceston two years in a row)
- no team is to play away games at more than two part-time grounds in the same year (eg Freo can't be in Launceston, Hobart, Canberra and Darwin all in the same year)

I realise that is a little quick to play twice, but it would require far too much mucking around with the fixture for me to alter this (my fixture was done entirely by hand with no software or anything like that). BTW will be interesting to see yours when it is completed.

Done by hand? As was mine - I share your pain! It's one of those things that's too hard to correct (mine has the two Darwin games in Rounds 2 & 5).

Your fixture is pretty good there hcd199, happy with it from a Geelong perspective. Love the eight home games at KP. Just several things- I noticed you have two twilight matches in Geelong against GWS and Port. Skilled Stadium cannot host twilight games as lights won't be installed until 2013. Those two will therefore need to be afternoon games.
Also, I noticed you've scheduled Saturday double headers at Etihad/MCG in Rounds 2, 7, 10, 11, 14, 16, 18, 19 and 20. This can't happen, move the Round 7 Cats game to Skilled. Not sure what you could do about the others though.
Good effort though after reading through it, I realise the difficulty involved in creating a fixture.
