My day at the draft

Pigdog,

Why did we enter the draft with only 3 selections in light of the gold coast taking up many quality selection next year?
umm they aren't?
They get priority access to 17 year olds next year I thought.
They don't get their stack full of first round picks until the year after.

Just a question for those who may know about the draft, in the years where GC17 and WS get early picks, do some teams not have 1st rounders or does the 1st rounder go until like pick 30?

Well that would depend on your interpretation.

Technically every club would still get a first round pick, except it would be kicked along the order. ie. If it happened this year we may very well have had pick 26 as our first round pick. However that would still be classed as a first round pick as it is still in the first round of drafting, which lasts until every club has had a pick (including picks they have traded away).

However pick 26 in my eyes is not a first round pick, but a second round pick.

So we would have a first round pick, but it wouldn't be a "first round pick". (At risk of sounding like another poster) Know what I mean?

Post #23 hopefully answers that one.

Answer for Bulldogs Roar - As far as teams they thought did well I'm not to sure, but I know they had a high opinion of Trengrove and Swift and were a bit surprised they lasted til the 2nd round.

I should have asked you this the other day but was Trengove rated by Clayton higher than Tom Lynch??

I can't remember the order exactly.

I do know that they rated Trengrove very highly and were a little surprised that Lynch went in the first round.

Perhaps that answers your question.

Thanks for the info pigdog

Just wondering by some slim chance, if they happened to mention anything about the rookie draft? With a few slipping out of ND

yeah was just in regards to father son bidding with Wallace's boy coming in potentially. Didn't know whether if our first pick was regarded as a 2nd rounder and some team bid their 1st rounder whether that would be enough or what would happen.

Not really.

They mentioned that they would be looking over the results of the ND this week and then deciding on the direction we need to take with our rookie selections.

You could take a guess that we will be aiming to get some running player's in after taking 3 talls at the ND.

McKernan over Roughead... I was gonna ask you about that as well. Would we have taken him if he were still available?

Did they give any indication on how many selections we'll be taking in the Rookie Draft?

McKernan and Roughead were rated very closely together. I suppose we will never know which way they would have gone if both were available.

I think they are hoping to take 2 player's at the Rookie draft, but that will depend upon funding.

Did you talk to anyone from Collingwood and If so did you get there reaction on the Pies Draft?

Its irrelevant what round pick is used. Basically whatever pick is bid we have to use our next available pick if we want to get them.

Your question is nicely answered in the very first post.

Thats better, sorry but i cant stand that other prick.

How are you going to feel when our first pick is 16, Wallace Jnr is rated a top 5 pick and is interested in coming to the club ?

Suggested answer: Pretty good, that means we won the premierhip 2 months earlier.

He'll only qualify for Hawthorn. Games coached don't count and he didn't play 100 games for us.

Are Libba and Wallis jnrs both eligble for the '10 draft?

That would be ideal if they were both considered 1st round guns - unlike all the other teams we would still have access to 1st round talent that Scotty Clayton couldnt touch.

Presumably we would have to spend our first pick (which would be like.. in the 20s somewhere considering that GC has 9 of the first 15 picks) and a second round on the other guy which would be in the high 30s to low 40s.

pretty good value if it falls that way. Just a pity that Groener jnr isnt eligible, although I did anyone hear that the AFL was considering temporarilly reducing the F/S limit as a compensation for GCs draft priveleges? Or did I make that up?

No, I have heard those whispers too, though I have yet to see anything in concrete from the powers that be.
