Nothing has gone wrong with mine

Ditto, got it a few weeks after launch and it is still in perfect working order today. I did perform some tasks on it though that helped keep it in prestine condition (dust the inside of it every few months.... funny thing was i didn't bother to do this until it was around 3 years old).

I got a 360 in early December, i will be interested to see how long the console lasts, i have read report after report of various consoles breaking down on their owners within 6-12 months of purchasing it. I hope it doesn't happen to me, wouldn't expect it to stuff up from wear & tear as i only generally play it one or two days a week.

Thinking far too narrowly here... Its an entertainment unit. I mean the Blu Ray players alone are almost the price of the whole PS3 for christ sakes...

With harddrive capacity and internet bandwidth increasing around the world..... why buy discs when you can pay for downloads in the comfort of your home >,>

All it'll take is widespread uptake of broadband ala Asia and an "Apple"-like company to convince the movie producers that hosting content is cheaper than producing discs to transport movies.

Well i work in a DVD store at the moment and we have pretty much done record sales in terms of pure numbers sold this past year. There is still a large market for it.

People predict things will change alot faster than they usually do. I agree with you in that i think optical discs will become obsolete in the near future but there are just so many people out there who collect dvds and love to physically have them in there hands that there will be a market for quite some time. Even with that some people wont know how to connect there PC's to there television sets and would rather just place the disc in the player. At the moment,even with broadband, it takes too long to downloadmovies.

Even if they were starting to die in 5 years time, at that point the next generation of consoles would be coming out anyway.

the way hard drives are dropping in price and the media centre taking over the home with streaming and downloadable content, i see wireless hard drives and things like the apple tv getting bigger.

how are cd sales these days?

finally good on kevin rudd for trying to get up to scratch with a lot of the rest of the world, if he dosnt get voted in howard will only steal his plans.

ps3 or xbox what ever is your cup of tea enjoy it because the way technology is rocketing along they will be updated on a nore regular basis.

ill be happy to stick a bluray oem pack burner into my desktop and use my media centre from there.

Well, I got my PS3 today and I am currently talking to you from it right now using the easy to install internet that comes with it.

I can tell you right now that it is AWESOME!!!

I got Resistance:Fall of Man and Virtua Tennis 3 with it as well, so why you guys come up with reasons to try and make your lives feel better without a PS3 I will be sitting here playing the most advanced system known to man, while also watching Blu-Ray movies.

HAHA I didn't spend $999 if you read what I said in the first place you would know that I got it on interest free terms.

Why couldn't you just wait the week?

600/24 = $25 a month you could have spent on something else for the next 2 years.

That sony had technical issues with the PS2 in the first 2 years of its release should tell you something

Well I sold my PS2 on Saturday, I would rather get it now and just have the ease of not trying to rush together money and save it for a couple of months because I am a shocking impulse buyer,and I didn't feel as if my PS2 would be able to last much longer as it has been on its last legs for close to a year now, it still played fine but it felt like I needed a change, plus I wanted to get NBA 2K7 and Virtua Tennis 3 on the PS3 and unfortunatly NBA didn't come out but Virtua Tennis did and it is definetly the best Tennis game ever made.

Yeah I payed off $500 of it yesterday and as an 18 year old kid it is hard to get that money, that is why I didn't want to wait, now I will pay it off like a mobile phone and wont have to be saving and waiting to get it.

That is the reason I wanted to but it on the 20 month interest free plan, I realise that the PS3 isn't free and if I dont pay it off by the end of the 20 months then I will get charged even more for it, but I have done these things before and know how to pay it off succesfully.

You do know that usually you get more if you trade in then if you sell

Yeah but mine had a mod-chip and I didn't have any other games to give with it.

XBOX 360 is good but the PS3 is far better, being a Richmond supporter I dont want to bag you too much but when you play the PS3 on a HDTV then you will see the reason why it is so much better and will be for many more years.
