Did anybody else see the "spoiler" that was on Channel 9 news in Adelaide on Sunday night?

They had a camera crew outside the Louvre on Sunday afternoon and were talking to people that had come to lunch there, only to find that it had been shut down the night before.

Channel 9's spin on it was that it was misleading of Channel 7 to conduct a "live" shutdown on the Saturday night, instead of the Sunday, when it was actually televised. They were suggesting that Channel 7 has advertised the shutdowns as live, when I can't ever remember them saying that they were.

It was an obvious attempt to have people watching 60 Minutes instead of MRR, by publicising the result before the show started. I'm surprised I haven't read anything about it anywhere.

Thoughts?? Did this happen in other states too?

Channel 9 Brisbane did it as well.
I think a lot of people got caught out as it was Mothers Day,Special planned lunches for Mum.

Shame on Channel 7 for doing it like that.

Good luck to them, I'm sure they'll do well. If they ever get sick of the Brisbane sunshine, they can always open up in Melbourne.

I still reckon they had the best restaurant in the competition, but they didn't play the game at all well.

*gaffaw*

Actually, this would make for some good television. Cringeworthy, but funny.

Should be how not to run a restaurant.I can't believe he would think he would make money out of such a venture.

Yeah Francesca and Todd were just sooooo gorgeous werent they...

WTF? How is that relevant? The had a very attractive looking RESTAURANT...they clearly served good FOOD...how anything I said applies to them is beyond me.

Personally I think they played the game too hard - especially with Francesca's behaviour in the other restaurants. They came across as arrogant, which I think was what the competition made them, away from that they should run a great restaurant.

The thing that annoys me is that Evan & Bella thought Fran was lying about the reviews so Louvre would be safe etc etc. However, I think Justine was the one who was purposely giving Brisbane bad reviews, for every, single review.

Go Adelaide

Actually Justine gave Pink Salt the worst review in terms of service, so that's not true.

Was I the only one who couldn't work out the judges scoring on Sunday night? Both Patrick and Matt (especially Pat) went off about the waitress in Sydney, saying they felt humiliated by her "cheeky" attitude - yet Pat gave them 8 out of 10 for service????

And what else was interesting was the conversation the other girls had about Francesca and Todd in general but more significantly was that when they were discussing how to get rid of them, it was Bella and Georgia discussing that, Justine wasn't part of that bit of the conversation - she was just talking when they were bitching about them - we've thought that Justine was the real game player but it was the other 2 (especially Georgia I thought) leading that charge.

I think the whole judging thing was very subjective and quite bitchy. It seems Matt Moran felt threatened by Nathan and was determined to talk his food down. It also seemed that Mr. New Idea was in love with Sydney, regardless of their failings and not knowing their own menus.

What was a bigger surprise to me though was that the waitress in Sydney never apologised for the wait, the hair or the lack of knowledge, neither did the smart arse chef. A little humility and they would have probably avoided the nomination. Where were Evan and Bella as hosts, shouldn't they have been asking how things were and also apololgising?

As for Nathan, he should have been smart enought to have copped it on the chin and said thanks for the feedback, i'll take it on board, i appreciate the criticism from a great chef, blah blah blah. I guarantee that the food would have come out judged at a far higher score if he had.

I've eaten at both the GG and Whisk and I must say the GG food was far better IMHO, but I would have liked bigger portions for the money. I did find the Whisk food bland and the produce wasn't good enough to cover for the lack of taste. That said, neither are in the top echelon of Adelaide or Melbourne restaurants by any stretch of the imagination.

I must have gone to Whisk on an off night, because all three of us that went ate three courses, and all enjoyed our meals thoroughly. Admittedly, none had the fish, but I would say it's a tad unfair to lable the food bland based on one dish.

I had the chicken entree they raved about, and found the lamb main to be superb. Also had the trifle Matt was complimentary of during the taping.

I understand they will mark the restaurants hard as this is a competition with a big prize at stake, but I tend to feel the reviewers are going in with pre-conceived ideas and are being blinded by these views in some instances.

Already it has been pointed out Pat lambasted the Sydney wiatress, and then gave the highest marks for service to them. Also, he was talking about the "SuperChef" in a derogatory manner before reviewing Melbourne. Seems both he and Matt just wanted to put someone in their place.

Fair cop, I'll take that. What I will say though, is I hope I'm never served by Pat in any manner...he is brash, cheeky, rude, overtly sexual in a way I find uncomfortable (refer the "It's raining men" episode - and I'm far from homophobic too), egotistical, whiney and likes to eat at restaurants with the full mohare chest on display...perhaps the hair in the food popped out from where the top three buttons of the shirt were left open....

Just as an aside, I'll mention that of the three of us there...one is a chef, one a F&B Manager, and one a Hotel Manager.

That letter to Justine was a crack-up...

Dear Justine,

I think you got you're wires crossed...Francesca is not a dog. You're a dog...You're dirty and scruffy...

Gold!

My brother went to Whisk on saturday (he has been to Pink Salt) and said in no way did it compare to Sydney. He only got a main meal (Chicken, which was good) but just did not rate the place compared to Sydney. He got filmed for 3 minutes, but it didn't make the cut for the Sunday show.

One last thing he mentioned, he was in the restaurant for about 1hr 30min, when he left the people who were directly behind him waiting in line before he went in were only just walking in then. So they were waiting outside for an hour and a half!!! No thanks.

Well done Adelaide. I did not watch all of the show but they did seem to be the best team and were not nominated for shutdown once.

Very happy with the result last night.. :)

Was it just me, or was the finale last night the worst finale is recent reality TV memory?

I taped it, and just watched the announcement afterwards on tape - but when I was flicking through it appeared to be basically all highlights of previous shows... Was there much new footage at all?

I was also surprised how quickly the show ended once the announcement had been made!

So was I. They spent more time with the reactions to the shutdowns in the previous 3 events, both the winners and losers. They crammed the actual result into 3-4 minutes. They had basically an hour of highlights.

I doubt the series will return next year- its ratings were not as good as the first series and Dicko proved to be the overhyped celebrity of 2005.

Makes me think of the last episode last year- they had all the celebrations of Perth, but also the emotion from Melbourne too.

My thoughts:
1. Disappointing finale to what was a far better series than the first one.
2. Dicko may have been hyped, but he was far, far better than that wooden stick Curtis. He was an embarassment and so far out of his depth.
3. The series will be refined and will be given another run as it rated better, the longer it went.
4. The worthiest winner got the prize this time, whereas last time, I think Perth was clearly a very ordinary restaurant.
5. Sydney were extremely gracious in defeat and showed a lot of class. If they choose to, they will have no problem finding a backer to allow them to run Pink Salt and it would continue to be a goldmine. Perfect restaurant for that location.
6. The next series should have no chefs allowed to make it more interesting with the couples trying to get restaurant experience on the fly.

Anyway, well done to the GG and commiserations to PS.

You did not miss much.

The one thing I do want to know is how the winners of series 1 are actually doing?

Either that or make sure that every team has a chef in it.

I also read a good suggestion in the Green Guide about a month back. Whilst I know this is reality TV and the station will want a battle of personalities, they could put a bit more emphasis on the cooking by getting the chefs to show how they prepare some of the dishes. At least by doing that, the viewer will get some idea of the quality of the food and skills of the chefs.

Once the voting started, it got boring.

Didn't bother watching the last 2 weeks as the 3 weeks prior to that was just the couples pitching for votes and how they were campaigning. I'd imagine the last 2 weeks were very similar.

Doubt if it will be back. Needs a serious format re-think if it does return. Some good ideas early but it just petered out.

No complaints about Dicko but even he looked bored during those final weeks.
