Where's Ablett? I would've replaced Mathews for Ablett in a heart beat. And for some reason your 22 looks much less than 22. I had to count the players just to make sure.

I also like the look of Malceski in the midfield.

Points of contention:

- Kennelly at CHB. Tadhg is excellent at running the ball out of defence, but his one on one defence has been found wanting a few times. I think he would have major issues playing on the KP forwards.
- Jude at HB. No leg speed, poor kick - will be an absolute 'mare down back.
- Bird has huge wraps on him atm, but I seriously doubt he will be in the team from round 1.
- Grundy might not be around next year!

I'm not so sure. I think Mathews is more important that most people realise, but i suppose Mathews or Ablett could easily play the same role.
Too right.

Jude at half-back flank?
And I'll definitely have Barlow in the team.
He just might surprise you... Although I would've liked Mattner to play at HBF, the Crows are saying how better he is on the wing. It might just work.... :p

Well for Jude at HBF...pretty much what Grimlock had said.
Jude is too slow to play HBF, especially for us in the SCG where HBF is often the playmaker. Jude belongs in the middle and should stay there permanently battling for loose balls and clearances.

Just to let you know, it was a tongue in cheek post. :thumbsu:

But I agree, Jude is too slow and he is a hard nut who'll through his body over the ball and all. Suited for clearances...

Yess! Barlow is suited in that role... fast, tall and gangly. The opposition will get confused between Craig Bolton and Barlow.

I see, I'm a bit slow today to get it the first time (actually my brain hasn't been working too well in the past few days), sorry about that! :D

Most Geelong fans think that Playfair is absolutely crap playing up front. Obviously we don't need to take it as a gospel, but maybe that's reasons why they said that.

Hasn't he always played off the half back line?
It's just that you seem to have put him as a CHB instead of in a Half-back flank position - so Kennelly will have to take on the likes of Jonathan Brown, Riewoldt, Ashley Hansen etc at the moment. You'll be right jsut by switching his name and B2's around.

Positions are meaningless, but barring injuries it will look something like:
Hall
Davis
McVeigh
Mathews
O'Keefe
C.Bolton
Malceski
Everitt
Fosdike
Jolly
Kennelly
O'Loughlin
Ablett
Barry
J.Bolton
Richards
Roberts-Thomson
Kirk
Buchanan
Schmidt
Goodes
Barlow
Mattner

Crouch, Bevan and Playfair are others that will be around the mark. Don't expect any round one debuts. Roos has a record of talking the talk when it comes to significant, as opposed to superficial, changes... but he hasn't acted on them before and I see no reason why he will in 2008.

FB: Barry C.Bolton Mathews

C: Mattner L.Ablett Malceski
HF: O'Keefe Hall Buchanan
FF: Davis O'Loughlin Everitt
RUCK: Jolly Kirk Goodes

INT: Schmidt Fosdike J.Bolton Barlow Playfair Laidlaw White

Note: I know nothing about White except I've heard he's good and tall so he's in. Laidlaw I thought was impressive when he played, and I was surprised he didn't get more of a run during the year. Keiran Jack wasn't too bad either IMO, we just had enough players of his type on the interchange already.

FWIW

C Bolton, L Barry, P Bevan
M Mattner, LRT, T Kennelly
N Malceski, L Ablett, T Schmidt
R O'Keefe, B Hall, J Bolton
N Davis, M O'Loughlin, A Buchanan
D Jolly, B Kirk, A Goodes

P Everitt, E Barlow, B Mathews, N Fosdike

So basically all that has happened is Schneids and Seany out for Mattner and elevate Schmidt into the team. IMO Macca isnt in our best 22

Playfair would have to prove himself to be in our best 22 IMO, I think LRT is in front of him ATM, just. As is Super Ted. I think there is plenty of depth down back now, with the likes of Playfair, Teddy, Brennan and crouch all very capable. Maybe Teddy can go forward if needed.
I personally think 3 talls down back is enough, and the others can provide the run.
I am against playing a ruckman forward, it will work against weaker teams, but the good teams will simply exploit this and run the ball out of our f50 at will, especially if the ball spills to ground. I think we need guys that can lock it in.
