B: Scmidt (strong and better skills then Bevan) Barry C. Bolton
hb:Kennelly LRT Mattner
c: Bolton Malceski Ablett
Hf: Davis Hall O'Keefe
F: Bucchanan O'Loughlin Barlow
Rucks: Jolly, Goodes, Kirk

inter: Everitt, McVeigh, Richards, Fosdike
emerg: White, Matthews, Bevan, Playfair, Bird, Laidlaw, Crouch

I still rate Jarrod Moore and believe he has not been given enough opportunities of having a few games in a row to find touch.

Delist: Grundy, Vogels, Barbazon, Phillips (just too slight to play AFL).

Have concerns ongoing about Leo holding down key position paticularly with changes to "in-the-back" rule. Good pre-season in the weights room would do Teddy the world of good. Malceski has taken that next step and needs to be in the middle to compensate for our pace.

Playfair also an option at FB, give Leo the cjance to run from Half-back and put Teddi in a pocket.

Given the older legs we have in the forward line, I'm going to go against the modern trend and move Hall into a more traditional FF role (like Gehrig for the saints for the last few years) to save his legs and let the younger legs run up more tha ground and O'Keefe play more like a traditional setup type CHF that runs up the ground more. My team:

Richards C.Bolton Leo Barry
Kennelly LRT Malceski
Ablett Schmit Mattner
Barlow O'Keefe McVeigh
Davis Hall Magic
Jolly Kirk Goodes

Bench: Spida, Playfair, Jack, Laidlaw/Bevan depending on match-ups.

Jack to develop as an attacking player with his pace rather than a tagger - Crouch is a good example how NOT to develop young talent with pace. Laidlaw will rotate between Half Back Flank and Midfield Flank to setup a situtation where Kennelly and Laidlaw will interchange positions a lot, ditto Mattner and Malceski on the left. Bevan may come in to take some off Matthew's old opponents - eg. Fletcher, Travis Johnstone etc and maybe for Leo against smaller forward lines. Playfair to mainly develop as a backman freeing up Richards to take over some of O'keefe's load in the forward line.

I'll make sure I adapt some sort of rotation policy - one or two players a game so Currie, White, Moore and D. O'Keefe gets at least 6 games in the senior side and possibly Bird, if he's ready sooner than we expected. And yes, no room for Fosdike, J.Bolton, Matthews or Crouch in the side.

There are a few issues with some of these suggested teams:

- J Bolton is too slow and doesn't kick well, so is not suited to half back, half forward or wing. He has struggled badly in the centre too, so I'm not sure what value he has left.

- Buchanan in forward pcoket - far more suited to an on-ball role, particularly as his kicking for goal is ordinary.

- Barry is really too old given his size to remain at full back. Needs to move out to the back pocket or back flank.

- Putting Hall at full forward is a problem as he cannot take a contested mark overhead, so kicking it long to him is not really an effective option.

- Schmidt in the back pocket is a waste - needs to be in the centre.

- Ablett's offensive contribution is limited - should be kept only as a tagger depending on matchups.

- Mathews had a decent year as a tagger, but I wonder about his speed next season.

- I think we need only one of Ablett, Mathews and Bevan. If Crouch is still fit and quick then we don't really need any of them.

My team selection is:

B: Jack, Playfair*, Barry
HB: C Bolton, LRT, Mattner
C: Kennelly, Buchanan, Malceski
HF: O'Keefe, Hall, Davis
F: O'Loughlin, Barlow, McVeigh
R: Everitt, Goodes, Kirk

Inter: Jolly, Laidlaw, Schmidt, Fosdike.

Emg from: Moore, Richards*, White*, Brennan, Thornton, Brabazon, Bird

One of the following as a possible tagger: Crouch, Ablett, Bevan, Mathews.

Schmidt in the back pocket is a waste - needs to be in the centre.

Considering he is yet to cement a regular game, he doesn't deserve to be in the middle. But definitely has future potential.

- Buchanan in forward pcoket - far more suited to an on-ball role, particularly as his kicking for goal is ordinary.

Due to his at times poor dispoal he should be closer to goal. Ratioanle being that his disposal is okay upto about 30 metres, but poor over longer journeys. He is also the best in-an-under player we have and his crumbing would be valuable up forward. As evident in 2005 GF.

Still belief Jude has plenty footy left in him. His Kicking for goal is the only real disposal weakness he has. Very good disposal by hand and links well.

How he's yet to become a regular is a mystery.

Sure, but he's not always going to get shots so close and I think he is far more valuable in the centre where we desperately need to get clearances.

I don't think any part of his disposal is either good or quick. Adds very little to the team now.

FB: Barry C.Bolton Mathews
HB: Kennelly Roberts-Thomson Richards
C: Mattner L.Ablett Malceski
HF: O'Keefe Hall Buchanan
FF: Davis O'Loughlin Everitt
RUCK: Jolly Kirk Goodes

INT: Schmidt Fosdike J.Bolton Barlow Playfair Laidlaw White

Note: I know nothing about White except I've heard he's good and tall so he's in. Laidlaw I thought was impressive when he played, and I was surprised he didn't get more of a run during the year. Keiran Jack wasn't too bad either IMO, we just had enough players of his type on the interchange already.
J.Bolton will not play for sydney in 2008,cannot negotiate contract will be picked up by melbourne in the draft..

Thoughts?
LRT has to be in at centre half back, with kennelly running off a flank
fosdike has to be there somewhere, certainly ahead of mathews
i'd be looking at barlow or ablett

does anyone else get the suspicion jude's in strife??? apparently, if we don;t sign him to a new deal by the first week of december he goes in the PSD....i just have this feeling roos wants him out, i'm sure mainly to do with the salary cap squeeze.....so on that basis i've not found a spot for him....i like the idea of bird and white in the 22, but i would hope to see d o'keefe and d currie in there somewhere too at some point

No, Roos clearly stated during trade week that he was a required player but he would only trade if the right deal came up. That right deal (a first rounder) didn't come so Jude remains.

They will now seal a new contract (slightly better in our favour due to salary cap constraints) and Jude will play out his playing days with the Swans.

I'm pretty sure in one of the papers this week his manager said that they were close to finalising a 2 year deal.

Can't be bothered finding a link - Herald Sun or Age it was

Various articles have confirmed Roos saying he is a required player and that his manager beleived a new 2 year deal will be sealed shortly.

So yes I am sure about this.

The only way it won't happen is if Kerr walks from West Coast, nominates for the PSD and says he wants to play in Sydney while nominating his salary at $1 million a year. In that case all bets are off.
