This is the guy we should get now that luke ball is out effectively. Josh Thomas is a project and the pies are setting themselves for the now so i think a mature player to play inside and has a body to step up is the best option. Don't even want to think about drafting Troy Taylor, just looks to laidback of the videos ive seen, even at the state comp.

I'd happily look at Sewell with any pick > #30. Of course, our recruiters know a helluva lot more about him than I would.

Im sensing there will be alot more of these 'panicking' threads, now that we most likely wont get Ball. Have faith in our recruiters, im sure they wouldve had a plan B in mind should we not have picked up Ball:).

It's not as if he's old. Where is the rule that a player who shows promise in a state league should always under any circumstances be picked lower in the draft. If he's the best available at 30 we pick him; who cares where he comes from. Look at how Bernie Vince came into the AFL..

Sam Mitchell, Matt Priddis....next Miles Sewell - Get on Pies!!

If we're looking for a mature recruit, Barlow should be on the radar.

Tend to agree with a 'now' philosophy.

With Beams, Sidey, Blight and co. coming through we won't have a repeat of the lean recruiting years from 02-04.

If Sewell's deemed the best player 'now' out of him, Taylor, Thomas - no reason not to pick Sewell.

ps: Any player who says they'd play for Essendon (i.e. Ball), not worthy of a Pies jumper

I'm really keen on getting Myles to the club anyone know where his been rumored to go or if we have shown any intrest

Trained with North at times. Obviously being contracted to one of their VFL affiliates.

They had him decked out in North Melbourne gear. I think they'll take him in the 3rd round.

An interesting OP. thanks the_champ_2004,

I was wondering about him just the other day.

Any guy that wins the Liston Medal is worth a look. Good pedigree though from memory he's leaner than his brother. I'm leery to waste of a pick in the > #30 on someone that are yet to prove themselves against men. I say this because we are nearing a legitmate GF crack and a ready made player like Sewell could be the type that will add additional midfield depth. The impact of losing Pendles and other players (not officially injured ) in the finals raised concerns for our chances in the finals next year. I dont believe the outcome would have been any different though, but the hole in our midfield could be filled, after a preseason by Sewell.:thumbsu:

No panic, just rate him highly. What's the point in drafting someone that will take time while you are in the window? The club has said we are in the window and as a result we now have jolly and had a good albeit unfruitful crack at ball. All players that will be up there at the best they can be for three or so years. It's well and good to plan for the future but sewell is only 21 or so is he not? That's still a future player.

The argument for getting Sewell surrounding being in our premiership window has some merit, but you also have to realise that if you continue to recruit mature aged players only, like StKilda has recently, the "arse" will eventually drop out of your list due to age and you will hit rock bottom.

Some may say that is well worth a premiership, and they may well be right, but I still see it as prudent to build on our very good young list, with the limited drafts/trading periods coming up through the intro of the 2 new sides.

If we can get Sewell with out 4th round pick, good, but I am totally against using pick 30 on Sewell given our recent record with picks in the 20-30 range of the draft.

Draft young with 30 I say, then maybe grab a Sewell, Harris, Shirley etc later on in the draft.

Plus I love the look if Josh Thomas, I'm so hoping he is still "alive" at pick 30, I will be hanging out for that more then Luke Ball.:o

Not having a go at you champ. Im all for getting the best available player:). I was just a tad confused that people could rate him as high as a pick30 and others as low as a 5th rounder:confused:, massive gap. How good is he really?

He looks at likley player and I'd think he'll get drafted considering this years lack of depth.

But he is not a bib bodied mid and while he is a bit older (20) he is at the same developmental stage physically as Wellingham, McCarthy, Beams & Sidey.

If Luke Ball is taken, as expected now, I'd back Hine to take a youngster with pick 30.

nah we dont need anymore mids, hes too skinny aswell, not the size of his brother brad.well i think brads his bro.

All I know is he won the VFL's Best and Fairest (Their version of the Brownlow) last season, and is Brad's brother.

Brad was a skinny VFL plodder before he was drafted too.

It doesnt mean Mykes will be the same and our luck he wont but to say he cant reach brad's size is incorrect

The reason I say pick 30 is cause that's the only chance well get at him. Hawks or north will take him before our fourth pick.

We need another quality mid. Otherwise why the interst in Bal and Welsch (now unavailable) l dont recall any of the players on the back burner that legitimately fill our need for a good in and under mid.

He's a short term project with plenty of upside. {Pck 30 seems unlikely but so does Ball at 30. Sewell is quick by all accounts and an impressive tackler, ball winner and kick unlike Barham and Stanley ( gone but not forgotten) both whose disposal are as reliable as a taxii driver arriving for a booked fare from Kew to Richmond on a Saturday night.
I wouldnt be unhappy with a player that's played against men and excelled. Especially one who may have the genes to bulk up and have an immediate impact. :thumbsu: Other sides are thinking the same thing.

I can't see Collingwood taking him with pick 30, it's just not like our recruiters to do so, i think they have something lined up, going by what they were saying regarding whether to take Ball at 30 or not.
