In the wake of the inaccurate game against Sydney a lot of the talk has been about how inaccurate Collingwood are, and how it might cost them another flag.

I thought this was a valid criticism in 2010, but in 2011 I felt we had improved a lot and this criticism was rubbish. Especially since this is the ONLY game we have scored less goals than behinds this year. So I chucked this together based on the proportion of how many goals per scores made (so it doesn't take into account OOF).

Code:
	Team G	B	Accuracy %
1	Western Bulldogs	166	128	56.46%
2	Collingwood Magpies	208	163	56.06%
3	Port Adelaide Power	138	112	55.20%
4	Essendon Bombers	190	155	55.07%
5	Richmond Tigers 188	155	54.81%
6	Adelaide Crows 137	113	54.80%
7	Hawthorn Hawks 199	167	54.37%
8	Brisbane Lions 147	129	53.26%
9	Geelong Cats 178	158	52.98%
10	Melbourne Demons	177	165	51.75%
11	North Melbourne 164	157	51.09%
12	St Kilda Saints 136	132	50.75%
13	Carlton Blues 173	174	49.86%
14	West Coast Eagles	168	174	49.12%
15	Sydney Swans 153	166	47.96%
16	Fremantle Dockers	163	180	47.52%
17	Gold Coast Suns 123	142	46.42%

I'm not sure if someone has stats that do take OOF into account but either way it seems that the Collingwood are a very accurate side, while the current contenders are middle of the road. Myth busted.

Improved since 2010 in accuracy imo...

Cats started 2011 pretty inaccurate and have come good the last few weeks so maybe teams have spells on a off in goal kicking...

Of course this doesn't take into account which of the behinds were rushed behinds. I'm not sure how to explain what happened with them against Sydney, maybe it was the conditions or just some nerves that built up during the game. Either way a team like Collingwood won't let this poor kicking continue.

It's awesome to see whats possible when your team kicks straight. First time in a while we have and we managed to challenge the reigning premiers, would have liked to have won since we'll be back to missing the simplest of shots next week. It was fun while it lasted.

good improvement in accuracy:thumbsu:

^^In addition

Fact: 13.21 last night - many of those behinds kickable.

Nobody is saying Collingwood aren't improved but last night was a bit of a shambles in the third quarter.

I've noticed the Pies get a lot of goals this year from Swan or your two giant apes getting behind the defence - that would presumably improve your accuracy.

Fact: Cloke and Thomas were pretty yippy last night.

I agree, Cloke missing that set shot from 5 metres was diabolical..though he did kick six so as long as he keeps doing that I don't mind if he misses a couple

those stats are nice, but as a fan I still think we miss far too many kickable goals.

Cloke has been far better this year, but he could have kicked 8-10 in both of the last couple of weeks if he kicked like you expect a quality key forward to kick. Happy for him to kick 6.4 every week though.

Thomas and Dawes both missed multiple shots last night they would usually gobble up though.
