I'm one of the (apparently two) who support the inclusion of Gardiner. Hawk can't last the distance, Nablett's a bit down, so why not? Keep Hawk, but play him close to goal, while Gardiner can roam the half-forward line.

If you listen closely you'll hear a thud, as thousands of Geelong supporters have just fainted. In a word, no.

I understand what you mean, and if Gardiner could produce any semblance of form at the top level he'd be in. But he can't. Round 1 against Footscray was the final straw I think. He'd had a good preseason, and I freely admitted beforehand on form he deserved to be picked. But unfortunately once he got there it was the same story - dropping marks, falling over, poor decision making (remember the long bomb to several unmarked Dogs players), and the litany of woes continued.

He's just not up to it. Simple as that. Even right now and as raw as he is Hawkins offers more. He can stay upright for a start.

I know, I know. I do like him though, my favourite "Not-Best-22" player. Frustrating to know that he really can play at the standard required (I'm pretty sure he's played well a few times), but just doesn't. I don't think Nath and Hawk should play at the same time, so Charlie in form would really be a handy player. Annoying!

i have been told NAB has a pissy injury in his hip other "Tough players" there words not mine would just play on with it. also NAB is doing a little "soul seaching" hes still a "bit fragile". on what ive been told expect the tomahawk to keep playin untill NAB hits form again.

Perhaps Ablett is one of the ones that we have rostered off to get over injuries. I don't think his form warranted a spot, but I don't think Hawkin's form in the VFL warranted a spot either. Bring in Gardiner.

lay off the goof balls

To be honest, I've been wondering whether that's part of it. If Nathan was really passionate about playing top level footy, I'm not sure he would have been kept out of the team for a niggling injury like this. Perhaps he is struggling personally with his motivation, and that when it comes to this part of the season, that is needed in bucketloads.

Play both Hawkins and Nablett, you can never have enough tall forwards. seemed to work well against Richmond and Melbourne, and i think Freo are around that mark.

Gardiner:eek: give me a break.

NAblett had been playing with that 'pissy injury' for most of the year, that would make him a 'tough player' in my book.:D

If he's fully fit he's in for Hawkins.

And perhaps he just has an injury. Or maybe Max Rooke dose not really have a hamstring problem and that is why he has not played lately. Maybe it is his heart muscle? Yes, I think that it is rediculous too! Nathan has had an injury. Who would not want to be in a successful side at this sage of the season?
Surley if a KKP player has a niggling injury just before the business end of the season you would make sure that they are fit for the finals especially when you are 3 games clear on the ladder.

Unhappy with his return.

He needs to pick up form soon otherwise he is just wasting a spot in the seniors.

Yep, I think NAblett (or the 2nd key forward spot) is our biggest weakness at the moment. Unfortunately, apart from Gardiner, I can't see who else to bring in.

I think you know as well as I do that Charlie is waiting in the wings for Bomber's call!!! Good hands -but bad feet!

I guess our expectations are high - but frankly, he didn't do much yesterday against the feeble Dockers.

No. I expected 30 goals from 20 games from him this year.

He is not even finishing 50/50 with his opponent at the moment.

Why not have Hawkins and Nath playing together? It will give us more options. And because they are both young, you would hope that if one has a quiet game then the other will step up.

The problem is who do you drop to do it......

Too many cooks spoil the broth. In order to bring Hawkins in you would need to drop probably someone in another area of the game. Not only that, but you would have Hawkins, Ablett, Mooney and Johnson cluttering up the goal square, with stokes and Chapman working in under. That would be quite crowded and would hurt us probably more then help.

The only way I can see Hawkins coming in with Nablett is if Mooney gets injured or has a weeks rest or something.

i don't think its a good idea having mooney hawkins and nablet in the same forward 50 too crowded and too tall, especially if ottens heads down into the forward 50 for a spell occasionally too.

I think Nablett is strugling with motivation. I saw a lot of him vs freo and he seemed to be lacking any spark and hunger for the ball, I'm not sure he really wants to play AFL football.

It worked against Carlton. Hawkins would only play 55-60% of the game anyway. It would stretch the defense of alot of teams.

You can look at it both ways i spose.

C'mon Nath, we know you can do it!

Do we though?
I saw him kick 6 goals in a half in a VFL practice match, and I thought he would be a gun.
Was happy with his first and 2nd years... I thought he would do well this year.

I have not seen him play to his ability since Round 1 or 2. He really needs to put in a solid month of footy towards the end of this year I think.

He did seem to be a bit rusty and out of touch on Saturday but his contributions this year have been good. He needs to find some touch but he is very much in our best team.
