N.Ablett has a bad case of the "Cant be stuffeds". Is he worth chasing for the 09 season?
i wouldnt mind seeing him in the navy blue next year.

Early days i know, but why not throw it out there!

Not much point in picking up a player who could just as easily lose his passion in 2 or 3 years . he doesn't like attention and probably wont even miss AFL footy anyway , as it was the cats had to put a lot of effort in getting him to the cattery in the first place .

No point, he can't be bothered driving 15 mins to training, why would he want to drive over an hour.

The kid is the type that doesn't like the spotlight, i think he only played footy for his old man and brother, had a good season and is happy to walk away.

I give him credit for not falling into the footballers mould.

I dare say Geelong would attempt to retain his services.

He's still contracted to play for them this year and at this point it is too late to delist him anyway, thus if anyone wants him in 09 and Nablett wants to leave to a club of his choice Geelong would have to do a trade.

If Geelong is really smart they could always renew his contract for a year or two for 2009/2010 for minimum wage just to secure his signature if he does decide to return to play.

But I do have a question. If a father and son player retires, and then wishes to resume his career again can the club still draft him under the father and son rule again?

Ablett will never play for the blues so forget about it!! Not even worth thinking about.

He never wanted to play afl to begin with, he got pressured into it, and it took the cats over a year to do it. He has done it at the highest level, how would you motivate him next??
He's a quiet kid who hates the spotlight, if he wont play with his brother, just down the road from home, at his dads club, then why would he go to melbourne or interstate!

Forget Nathan Ablett, wish him well, but at the end of the day he is the new Steven Oliver! All the tricks just doesn't wanna play!

With 8 goals in 13 games ,i think Oliver struggled at the highest level . He seemed to be exeptional at reserves level though .

Not exactly identical situations but clever comparison nonetheless. I wonder if any clubs considered him after he went back to the bush?

Cant remember why, but he was in the news a few weeks back, He did say he got a call from two clubs but chose not to get back to them!

Ablett kicked 46 goals in 32 games.

So your comparison makes no sense.

It wasn't my comparison , I pointed out that Oliver struggled at the top level in kicking only the 8 goals as a response to that interesting comparison .

IT would be great if we could pick up Nathan Ablett. I think that if the kid really put his head down and wanted to be there, he could have the same impact as his brother on the field. To consider that he was a good player in a premiership side when he didn't really want to be there is amazing.
Having said that though, we should stop dreaming because it won't happen.

If he doesn't want to play for Geelong, the team his father played for, and most likely the team he grew up following, then there is no way I can see that he'd want to play for another AFL team.

Nah... didn't stuggle and had all the tricks necessary to succeed at the highest level. Forget using his 8 goals as a measure, that doesn't really tell you anything other than the fact he kicked 8 goals.

Often his team mates would kick elsewhere, despite him having made good position. I had the feeling he didn't have a lot of mates down at Carlton.
