N Brown a FF?

I remember watching him last season at FF and I thought he did very well there and played Forward in the VFL and Did some good Things.

Is it worth a Go as being the Big Power Forward?

Simply put, NO.

He has spent all his time down back, and we do need him back there, maybe as early as this year with Presti winding down his career, and Collingwood obviously lacking a second tall defender even if Presti plays on for a few years.

Teams like Stkilda (Riewoldt and Kosi) and Hawthorn (Franklin and Roughead) have tore us apart recently, mainly due to us not being able to contain those 2 forwards in "bursts".

Nathan is our future full back, plain and simple, our forward "problems" will have to be fixed some other way.

i have also entertained this idea. browny has lost ALOT of his speed and agility -because he has had to put on weight and bulk up. i cant see him remotely keeping up with a riewoldt, franklin or the likes unless his speed seriously improves.

moving him forward wouldnt be such a bad idea- just to trial him.

WTF? He looked and looks rubbish and lost up forward.

How about we just leave our natural full back at full back

Longer term we need him more at FB in my opinion, but I wouldn't mind seeing him play in the forward line at times next year. He is a very straight kick and has reasonable characteristics to be a marking / leading forward.

I am not adverse to it at all - maybe in the NAB Cup.

So is it Dave the man, Tradedraft that is?

You start hanging shit on tradedraft, you will have the whole collingwood board to deal with

understood scum supporter?

He will be a quality key position defender. He has great closing speed and now that he is physicaly developed I see him being a regular at centre half back next season.

As a forward can't say I really like him there to be honest. In round 22 though I would consider giving Presti a game there just to make the opposition take notice and to completely wreck their defencive structures :D

I think he could but he is far more valuable to us as a defender and IF the move was made who exactly would take over FB from presti

For all those saying he should stay back, problem is while Presti is still around there won't be a match-up for him.

Until Presti hangs up his boots, he needs another string to his bow. I don't see any reason why he couldn't replace the L.Brown role as the swing man/gap filler of the side without really having a set position.

Yeh sure.

While we are at it, we should develop Jarryd Blair at FB.

Seems we have a plethora of promising key defenders in the wings waiting to develop.

I think the problem is with Brown atm is he is way to big to be a mobile fullback on the guys like Franklin and Riewoldt

They guy needs to drop some weight and i think by doing this he will reduce his chances at injuries

Does anybody else agree

There have been plenty of powerful strong blokes in the AFL that are alot smaller then Brown in a few years time he might not beable to move

But if loses Weight/Muscle he can be Easily Pushed Around.

I think N Brown is for the Gorilla Type Forwards like J Brown

Brown will proceed Presti at fullback. Presti and Wakelin, are/were not the most mobile players but the did the job most weeks.

I think he just needs to improve his closing speed and judgement of the ball and he will be a gun fullback.

There is a reason why he was untouchable during trade week!

It isn't going to happen, but he did play up there occasionally in the TAC so he isn't completely foreign to the role. He kicked a couple a few times as well I think, although I reckon he was helped by the fact he was a pretty big boy back then, he probably doesn't have that advantage at AFL level.
He certainly didn't look much chop when he was floated up there last year for us, but you never know. He has a massive boot and he doesn't mind busting a pack, not that best contested grab I've ever seen though...

Still I think we'll see him permanently locked down in the FB possie with the retirement of Presti on the horizon. But in saying that, I'd still much rather we tried to groom Nate for the swing man role than trying to use Leroy

Gotta agree with that. He didn't have any problem matching up on guys like Brown in 08 when he was a little lighter. It would have to help his mobility too which is gonna be a huge help for a defender. Plus it may help reduce the risk of further injuries like you suggest.

I only don't like this idea because we have so many in contention as a key forward. That said, I actually don't think (if I was coaching) Nate would be in the best 22 next year and that's not because I think he's crap it's because if we're serious he won't have a spot.

Reasons;
Presti is in the best 3-4 full backs in the competition and will stay there. Nate is not a CHF and will not be long term so should not be played there next year over someone (Reid) who will play there long term. Most people think that we should play Nate at CHB with Presti at FB until Presti retires at which point we send Nate to FB and play Reid at CHB. This is stupid and IMO the only way we could bottom out/lose ladder position if Presti retires. We can't (in 2 years) be going into a season with a defensive spine of a player with minimal AFL games (Reid) and one who's just swapped roles (Nate). We need to develop Reid at CHB if we're so sure he will play there long term.

Also, people say that Wakes and Presti weren't that mobile and their combo worked fine so Brown will be fine at FB. There are some obvious problems there. Wakes was a brilliant spot up kick and really good at setting up rebounds - Nate is not. Presti is really fast and has always towelled the lead up full forwards (ala Lloyd, Fev, etc) - Nate is not. This means that he will be one dimensional as a full back. On Brown type players he will do fine but on Fev types he will be royally smashed because they will smash him on the lead. Honestly IMO we should be trying to strengthen up Goldsack and developing him as our FB post Presti. He is the same height as Presti, is better overhead than Nate, is a better kick, has pace and appears to have way more footy smarts. Honestly I think if he can put on some weight he could be a brilliant full back. Nathan will be limited against certain players for his whole career.

Nathan should be turned into that swing man because he is an obvious upgrade on Leroy Brown. Better defender, better kick and just as huge (probably huger). The problem here is Josh. So basically if Josh is our back up ruck next year I think Nate should play in the magoos, if it's Wood then Nate becomes the swing man. Either way Leroy shouldn't play. I personally think people overrate Brown as a potential FB simply because he will be brilliant on some and terrible on others. You can't improve closing speed - speed is speed. He loses size he gains some speed but then he will lose his strength which will be playing on the gorilla forwards. He has more chance of being an elite forward than he does of being an elite FB but it won't happen because of Jack. Jack would have been our full bak and IMO would have been a brilliant one but is proving to be a brilliant forward - we need him there. It's a shame because Brown really is a good player but no position "really" suits him with our list as it is unless we drop Cloke and play him at CHF where he would thrive IMO. Won't happen.

I know I've repeated myself a billion time in this post but im in a hurry and cbb fixing it so they're my thoughts.

Who do we have in contention as key forwards?
Dawes - Shown nothing, big queries
Rusling - Perpetually injured
Reid - CHB

Who am I missing? I agree with your post though, I just think we lack a bit of forward depth.

John Anthony, Travis Cloke?
Those 2 are fixtures and the third tall will come from those you mentioned or Fraser. We have plenty of options both forward and back .. and ruck :eek:

Personally I think our forward line will look like this;

Medhurst.Anthony.Dick
Fraser.Cloke.Thomas

Backline;

Harry.Reid.Shaw
Max.Presti.Sack
