Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

Didn't Muston kick 3 goals on Fletcher this year? Terrible footballer? No. Injury-ravaged? Yes. He's a better option than most other players who are chosen toward the end of the rookie draft. He's a much better footballer than Crameri for instance.
He plays a very similar role to Monfries but Monfries does it a lot better and isn't as injury prone as Muston.

Pass thanks.

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

But he has gone to junk.

Cant recall Sydney delisting a first round draft pick who has proven them wrong.

Hardly the issue. The issue is automatically assuming that a delisted player can't do well for us in the right role. Lets be honest you won't find a Judd or Ablett amongst them but you could easily find a depth player who has had 2-3 or 4 pre seasons to physically be up to speed with AFL footy.

O'Keefe was injured a fair bit.

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

Never said that, but at the same time not all delisted players are rubbish. It is why I was not against putting someone like Daniel O'Keefe on the rookie list last year. You don't go from a top 15-30 pick to a dud in 4 years.

Yeah but a large majority are. And a player can easily go from top 30 pick to dud in 4 years. Sometimes quicker. Just have a look at the drafts in the past 10 years and you'll see. If you go even further back the number of failed first and second round picks are way higher, even though recruiting back then was not what it is today, it's still not great.

Again, who else has recently been delisted then rookied or picked up late in the ND by a new club and had a Rodan impact? He's the exception.

It just doesn't make sense to pick up these kinds of players considering where we are at. Carlton did it in the dark days and where the hell did Digby Morrell and Cain Ackland get them?

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

Dowler would be our best key forward, he is behind Buddy and Roughead!

Oh lawd, I wish my sig wasn't so full.

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

Given that this is the club who's stuck with Tuck, kept on all their party-boys, even thought rhan-away Hooper and Carl Peterson were a good idea; the one they delisted, Thorp, must be a fair old mess-up.

I've no idea why people think their scraps are any good. Their first side isn't much good.
I'd look at Carlton's scraps first, deadly serious.

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

Am I wrong in saying that Essendon must delist 1 more player if they're to take 3 picks in the ND and 1 in the PSD?

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

23 goals in 16 games, wowee what a super year.
That'd be about 30 behind Brad Miller who'll be lucky to find a rookie list spot.

Some people hold onto the "1st round draft pick" shit far, far, far too long. If a guy gets 1 game in 4 years then gets cut, they're fairly obviously no good.

So you dont want a talent filled youngster like Gorringe at pick 8 who could propell essendons ruck stocks and give first purchase to essendons midfielders for the next 10+ years and act as an extra midfielder. But you would be happy to waste rookie picks on hacks like thorp and lord help me Beau Dowler??? When we already have gumby, neagle, hurley, carlisle, daniher and probably joe daniher, and quite possibly M. Still being replaced on the rookie list.

Clay davis says it best what im thinking...

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

Possibly becuase our midfield is D grade at best, and we need to find that Jimmy Bartel pick 8 type of player to help our midfield. Our ruck stocks are fine. Add a VFL ruck or get Lycett in the 2nd round if available.
