Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

Would be happy if we drafted one of Atley, caddy, smith, polec, gorringe and darling

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

I'd rather take Darling than Gorringe, but that is about it. Please hope Polec is there at pick 8!

Exactly my thoughts.

Polec would be the dream selection or otherwise the next best mid.

Dont take a midfielder - May as well take the chance on Darling.

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

Pretty much, the upside on Darling is massive. You don't go from a certain top 2 selection to a dud in 1 season. I'd be satisfied with Darling at pick 8. That said I want a midfielder more, and Polec if available, we would be nuts to pass on him.

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

Im not to keen on Darling. Yes he could be anything upto buddy franklin/Brown but he could also be a player who never makes it. I personally think its too much of a risky pick for pick 8 and we should be minimising the risk as much as possible.

Polec>Atley>Caddy>Gorringe>Prestia

is my order for pick 8

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

At worst Darling will be a very good forward, at the best you have almost the next Brown. He in my view is the best KPF in the draft that is available (Day is gone to the GC). If we want a forward, take Darling.

In terms of midfielders my preference now is:

1. Polec
2. Atley
3. Smith
4. Prestia
5. Caddy
6. Pitt

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

I also rate Ben Jacobs as high as any midfielders in this draft apart from Swallow. I know a few people will say hes more of a HBF but he certainly can play midfield and is very similar to Hodge.

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

Players who have nominated for the National Draft said:
Joe Anderson (Carlton)
Jarrod Atkinson (Essendon)
Jaxson Barham (Collingwood)
Jarrad Blight (Collingwood)
Jarrad Boumann (Western Bulldogs)
Steven Browne (Carlton)
Ben Bucovaz (Fremantle)
Ryan Cook (Collingwood)
Anthony Corrie (Collingwood)
Steven Dodd (Fremantle)
Beau Dowler (Hawthorn)
Robert Eddy (St Kilda)
Brad Fisher (Carlton)
Ryan Gamble (Geelong Cats)
Chris Hall (Fremantle)
Chris Johnson (Carlton)
Paul Johnson (Melbourne)
Travis Johnstone (Brisbane Lions)
Tom McNamara (Melbourne)
Luke Miles (St Kilda)
Ryan Murphy (Fremantle)
Jay Nash (Port Adelaide)
Jay Neagle (Essendon)
Brock O'Brien (Fremantle)
Matthew O'Dwyer (Sydney Swans)
Rhys O'Keefe (Carlton)
Dean Polo (Richmond)

Josh Smith (North Melbourne)
Matt Spangher (West Coast)

Nothing of interest there I'm assuming? Not with our later picks?

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

Not for a pick 8, if we had a pick 20, I'd agree with you. But a top 10 pick I would want a bit more 100% certainty that he will play midfield. Not sold. If he is there at 31, then take him though. Actually see him more like a Lindsay Gilbee though.

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

Lets be honest pick 100 odd will likely flop. I'll rather take a chance on a kid that has massive upside. Give him a 2 year deal and tell him to not bother playing until 3/4 of the way through 2011, and re-assess in 2012. Could be the gold nugget we have been waiting for.

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

Either way, he'll be a nugget of some sort :)

We certainly do need players who can kick though.
