Re: NAB AFL Draft: Thursday, 18th November WHAT TIME MELBOURNE TIME? POST HERE FOR INFO

My limited and somewhat uneducated opinion believes that there are much better prospects at selection eight, but I suppose they're the experts for a reason.

Re: NAB AFL Draft: Thursday, 18th November @5pm

Would be pretty stoked, he sounds like an absolute jet, and if the only knock on him is his height, then I won't complain at all.

Im with you bud

I would love to have Atley, seems like the perfect player we are looking for, but everything you hear and read about Prestia seems to be the perfect all round player that could fill a number of roles.

Would be interesting if we did not have Colyer on the list if people would talk up Prestia more? (do we need two short mids in one 22?)

Re: NAB AFL Draft: Thursday, 18th November @5pm

No reason why we can't have 2 shortish mids. If Prestia is the best MIDFIELDER available, I am happy to take him. The one thing you won't need to improve with Prestia is disposal. Lets not forget if he was 185cm, he would go top 5.

Re: NAB AFL Draft: Thursday, 18th November @5pm

Considering that GC also really want Prestia at 9,10,11 and Melbourne also 12 i dont think we are paying to much over the odds now.

Prestia's disposal was good this year actually in the TAC Cup, can kick the ball off both feet and is just as dangerous inside as he is outside.

FWIW; I would not be at all fussed if we picked him at 8, but would still prefer Atley.

Re: NAB AFL Draft: Thursday, 18th November @5pm

Yep, his disposal was VERY good in the TAC. Someone was bound to take him first round as apart from being 175cm, he is worth it. I personally would take Altley but if we take Dion Prestia at 8, I would not complain. As good as Atley is, he needs serious work on his disposal.

Re: NAB AFL Draft: Thursday, 18th November @ 6:30pm Melbourne time

There are positives and negatives with each, the positive with Atley is he is a quick, goalkickin mid, the negative is his disposal. The postive with Prestia is his disposal, especially below his knees, his negative is his height and will really only ever be a ruck rover.

The thing for me is after a couple years in the system you can improve someones kicking (although I don't believe Atley's kicking is that bad to begin with). Prestia is not getting any taller.

Re: NAB AFL Draft: Thursday, 18th November @ 6:30pm Melbourne time

As much as I've thought Atley was the mid for us for a long time, something inside me really wants us to take Prestia.

yep. I think Prestia is going to be a great pick for us. Pinpoint disposal, pace, and a complete game.

I couldn't give a **** that he's short. Once Myers comes on, along with Jobe we'll have a perfect mix.

I've really warmed to Dion. Bring it on

what do you feel a ruck rover doesn't do that other players, say a rover or centre, do?

Re: NAB AFL Draft: Thursday, 18th November @ 6:30pm Melbourne time

Can't wait till tomorrow night, people will find pro's in everyone we select and will all be talked up like there's no tomorrow.

In the end I don't really care who we get because in reality, I know sweet **** all about any of them, and even if I did, none of us are gonna know how they transition to senior AFL footy for 4-5 years.

Re: NAB AFL Draft: Thursday, 18th November @ 6:30pm Melbourne time

Yet to see much from anybody associated with Essendon in relation to Prestia. All the article is about is his U/18 coach talking him up coupled with a lot of BF speculation..

there was a guy who claimed to be mates with Dion who said Essendon had committed to him about 6 weeks ago.

Obviously we take that with a grain of salt though...

hmmm i think we'll have 3 then, (prestia, jetta and colyer) a true modern day mosquito fleet. But is this just a ploy for Caddy to slip through. It's too small with 3 of them.

It's a shame prestia wasn't 5cm taller, it's more of a shame he wont be available at pick 31 but if they think they convince the prince in hird they've got buckleys.

But God dang he moves well.

Re: NAB AFL Draft: Thursday, 18th November @ 6:30pm Melbourne time

im going a little cold on prestia, he seems to just bomb the ball, he doesnt often hit a target, i like him as a player and should be a gun but his foot skills really worry me.

Re: NAB AFL Draft: Thursday, 18th November @ 6:30pm Melbourne time

How much have you seen of him to make this conclusion?

quite a bit, ive seen him play since the 16's championships, his kicking just might be miss read by forwards who underestimate his kicking power, he seems to hit the target more often when he has time to sum up the forwards coming to him, would have had him top 5 after the 16's championships and see no reason why we shouldnt pick him but im still hesitant with his skills.

Re: NAB AFL Draft: Thursday, 18th November @ 6:30pm Melbourne time

I've only seen that short video on the afl website of Prestia's highlights but the way a lot of people are going on about him he must be good. Hard to gauge how good he is from that video but it did show how big his kick is. His movement in one passage of play from the Calder highlights was silky as. Evaded tackles with ease and didn't looked rushed in the slightest.

Pumped for tomorrow evening. Will be rapt with anyone one of Atley, Gorringe, Prestia, Caddy.

Never said it was a bad thing. In fact I actually like the fact that we can finally fill our ruck rover position. Basically a rover position, I liken Prestia to a Daniel Kerr type, although he better learn to deal with a tag better than Kerr has!
