Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

How good was Harper in the final under 18 champs game? Kicked like 4-5 goals in a pretty wet and miserable day in Geelong.

I noticed that Knightwheelr has Parker, Caddy and Prestia all slide to 30 (to us), 32, 33. Interesting perspective as I think he's in recruiting in some capacity?

If we took a Brodie Smith (pick 8) and Dion Prestia/Kieran Harper (pick 31) double, I would not be opposed to that at all..

Couple of those goals he kicked in Geelong were pretty spectacular ey?..

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

Caddy will be top 10- 15 at the most. The other 2 might be around the mark.

I can see a striking resemblance to Koby Stevens last year. Potential to slide to us, however could rise up the rankings should he have a good draft combine.

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

I'd be mightly surprised if he did, but I'd be happy if he did. Stevens did have OP though last year which did cause him to slide. Draft camp will settle the candidates. Reality is there is 3 top candidates, then it is a chook raffle for the next 15!

Yeah I remember a few being quality. He was just so clean with his pick ups and disposals. I agree, if we got those blokes at 8 and 30 I'd be pitching a serious tent.

Yeah, as I said in another post, I just hope that the recruiting staff pick the 2 best midfielders at picks 8 & 31.

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

Nobody as far as i can see has mentioned KPP, the question was when do we get a ruck for post Hille.

Rucks are pretty much key position- they are tall for crying out loud. We can get a ruckman in the rookie draft for life after Hille. Anything taller than 190cm I don't want with our first 2 picks.

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

Lemon Chicken

I think a couple might still be around in the rookie draft.

Like the look of Ceglar, whilst Cofe (sp) seems like a prospect, does some nice things for a man of his size.

Would hope that we could maybe clean out our rookie list and get a couple more players on here also..

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

Exactly, we could even trade for an experienced ruck without using our first 3 picks, put one on the rookie list and go from there.

Doubt we would go for an experienced ruck. They wouldn't want to play 4th string ruck for us anyway spending all their time at Bendigo. They would be behind Hille, Ryder and Bellchambers. We could go for a 22yo VFL ruck in the rookie draft or get a kid with possibly a 4th rounder. There will still be some around at that point.

It will depend on Bock and whether or not he is still at the club next year.

Wouldnt mind seeing some footage of the QLDer Hickey but Ive stated before but my preference would have been to get a ruck last year and when you think that not one ruckman was taken before our last pick, we seriously missed out on that chance. I think i may rate ruckman a little more higher than bombersno1. She might be related to Grant Thomas.

Ok, we get the point... We understand your opinion regarding ruckmen, if I hear u mention the fact that you want kids and that's it again I'll spew!

For everyone else, how about the ruckmen from the VFL, playing for the roosters.. Can't remember his name but I've watched the last few vfl finals series and he looks to be a good big bodied guy to have around as back up.. 3 premierships says he ain't bad!
Just thinking out loud....

oren stevenson [or something close]......i've seen him play a few times on abc and he looks like he could have an impact if given the opportunity to prepare full time in an afl environment.

he is however i think 27 [correct me if i'm wrong] and for that reason probably better suited to a club with more immediate ruck issues such as hawthorn, port....if blake leaves geelong he could even be a good selection for them.

just coming into his peak as a ruckman [26-31yrs old] and i'd like to see him get a crack somewhere.

Yeah that's him!
Didn't know he was 27, we could do worse with a mature aged rookie though!
Seems to be a pretty handy player for nth ballarat, worse case scenario, bendigo would have a gun ruck knocking it down their throats...

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

If young Michael Still is delisted.... will he be rookied listed?? I reckon he could be worth hanging onto, but only as a rookie. Gives him more time to build up his muscles.

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

Just something i came across, and not liking the look of. Hope it doesnt ruin our draft prospects.

Adrian Dodoro -

“We don’t think that we have a major weakness in our midfield,” he said.

“Having said that, around our pick there will be a number of quality mids, but there will also be some quality talls as well.

“There’s a couple of ruckmen there and we’ve made no secret of the fact that we want to improve our midfield but we’re also looking at another ruckman as well.”

I know im only repeating 50 posts before this, but please no talls with pick 8

Don't understand those calling for still being delisted. utter stupidity. when he was drafted, he was drafted as a 17 year old who essendon thought would be a first round pick the next year (2009). He is only 19 at the moment, and once he fills out he should be a solid player.

He doesn't want to go on a rookie contract.

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

Hird on SEN just before says young midfielders are top of his list for the draft and likely we will only use 3 picks. Also mentioned if the right person was available during trade week they would be actively pursuing them.

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

No.
Apparently starting a business, young family, is happy doing what he's doing.
Rookie contract is essentially full time for 40k. The guy's 27 and I'm guessing would be earning 25-30 from VFL, for a lot less time.

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

The paper brought all good news this morning, until I read Dodoro's latest comment. Another tall, FFS

Yeah you make a very good point there...
If he is content with his life the way it is, why would he change anything for effectively nothing....

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

with ablett now confirmed, what compensation to geelong get? i dont want out pick getting pushed back any further, because whatever pick they get, theyll want to use it this year since theyre on the way down.
