Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:This

If not maybe gorringe will hopefully slide.

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

DON'T WANT GORRINGE!!!

As said above Atley would be ideal but of he doesn't slide I would be very happy with Caddy.

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

Im slowly warming to Gorringe... not everyday you can get a top quality young ruckman...

Would still prefer Atley or Smith at #8...

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

Just go with Caddy. He reminds me of Selwood. Very hard at the ball and very smart. Can go forward kick goals, and is a superb clearance player. Also very similar to Lenny Hayes too. Perfect player for us. Don't really want to take a high risk high reward approach to this draft.

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

I want atley or caddy first but if they're gone I think Gorringe at 8 would be a steal. Afl website just posted their top 25 picks.

www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/103717/default.aspx

Gorringe at 8 would be a steal but its just not what we need. We need midfielders, midfielders and more midfielders.

If Atley and Caddy are gone at our puck I'm sure someone like Smith would still be avaliable which would also be a very good pick up. We can get a ruckman later in the draft, plus with us already having Ryder on our list I think getting Gorringe with pick 8 is ridiculous.

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

If Caddy slips to our second pick, that would be amazing. It was looking quite possible, however after his testing at the combine, I highly doubt that will happen now. Would be absolutely fine taking him with 8 though.

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

Polec looked like a gun in the SANFL, on the form from his highlights I'd rather him than any of the other onballers that have been mentioned. If blokes like Atley, Smith, Caddy etc are as good s him its going to be a pretty good draft.

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

Not particularly phased about which midfielder we select at Pick 8.

Ideally would like to trade out a player ot two to obtain another pick in the Top 30.

Then pick 3 midfielders.

Rest of the picks can follow.

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

Think Caddy seems to be fairly under rated by most on BF. Woud be disappointed if we took Atley or Smith ahead of him.

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

Would love to get Gorringe but highly unlikely, looks like he needs 2-3 years to build up which would fit in nicely. I only really like Gaff as far as the mids go. I think Blayne Wilson ticks a lot of boxes for us, reminds me of a better version of Heath Shaw, would use our second pick on him. Not really much to get excited about after GC rape this draft. For the rookies i want to see us head up north and find a freak fwd pocket from NT. Maybe Merv Neagle is still coaching up there and could give us a smokie.

Merv neagle will tell you that the kid you need is in the bendigo stable!! In ben duscher! Refers to the kid as the best country footballer he's seen!!!! I also think the boy is worth a risk,
he's only just turned 23 and has showed some very great signs!! Rookie prospect??

He has been well discussed on here. I don't think many will be surprised if he is given a rookie oppurtunity. HAs played some great games for Bendigo, (the ones I managed to see anyway).

Now this man talks some sence :)

Ideally Smith Caddy or Atley are there im not a big fan off gaff. Atley is my fav atm. Three mids is what is needed in top 30 and 3 picks.

Ppl been saying this looks like a strong draft. Get another pick 12-14 range and could maybe pick another class mid as those listed above. Or Late one and hope parker slides.

Keeping in mind we will most likely loose a tallent like carsile to get things done

Hallelujah boys!

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/stanton-commits-to-bombers/story-e6frf9jf-1225934478612

The Bombers are keen to recruit midfielders after missing out on Port Adelaide's Travis Boak and Steven Salopek and Fremantle's David Mundy.
"It's about quality," Hamilton said. "We want to build and develop, but our midfield depth is something we're quite aware of and need to build."
The four Bombers have agreed to two-year deals.
"We believe there is a lot of upside in all four players and certainly the coach does as well," Hamilton said.
Under no circumstances will Essendon trade away its No. 8 selection

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

Im gonna put a player who hasnt been mentioned much and thats Kieran Harper. From watching the highlights i only prefer Gaff and Heppell and dont like a lot of what ive seen in Smith, Atley or Caddy as much. What are peoples thoughts on this kid at pick 8, a bit different and i know he played mainly as a forward but he has shown speed in his highlights and plenty of skill. Also a good finisher who can go forward and kick goals, i see him as a midfielder if you build his tank up.

I'd much rather take a proven pure midfielder instead of a flanker who has "midfield potential". With our desperate need for midfielders were in no position to take risks in this draft, especially with our first round pick.

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

Would be unhappy if we get another flanker, pure midfielders only. Just get the most PURE mid with pick 8. I would hope to try and snare Wilson at our 2nd rounder but he is a long shot.

very true

I guess im looking for a bit of unique or high reward, high risk. From watching highlights he just looks the better footballer than Caddy, Atley, Smith ect. Does anyone know where we can find more highlights of the players because the highlights just seem to be from one game and its hard to get enough info to make informed decisons as whos better. The top 6 look pretty settled with Swallow, Day, Bennell, Gaff, Heppell and polec. If any of those slip to us i would be more than happy to take them. Than i would go Caddy, Smith and Atley in that order. Im starting to lean towards Smith showed some good pace out of the clearances at stages i just doubt his disposal efficiancy and would like to see him as a more outside player than inside.

Does anyone know what position Harper played late in the season for his TAC cup side, because i heard he went into the U18 carnival underdone and maybe why he was used more as a forward option.

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

In light of the recent signings and with only laycock and Williams delisted, how many more delistings will there be? Therefore how many picks will we use this draft?

I don't believe Atkinson or Houli will be at the club next year.
May get something cheap in trades.

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

Considering we've drafted a lot of players over the last three seasons, I would imagine that 3-4 picks would be plenty this year. If we could snag #29 from Richmond for Houli, that would mean three very worthwhile picks.

IMHO we could get a jump up from Freo for Atkinson; and then a jump up on that pick from the Tigs for Houli. Tigs would probably do Houli + 30-odd for 29; but they'd probably baulk at 46.

Fair enough mate but as I said I don't think pick 8 should be the "high risk, high reward" pick. I can understand how you don't rate those players that highly due to their you tube video's (which aren't that impressive) but thats only one matches vision.

Follow this link and look and other footage of them it's a much, much better indication of their talent than the you tube videos :thumbsu:

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

What about Rohan Bewick. Saw him in impressive debut playing against Ben Howlett in 2009. He has gone on with it in 2010. Invited to draft combo. The following info from AFL site regarding invitees.

Height: 182cm
Weight: 76kg
DOB: 10/10/89
Recruited from: West Perth (WA)

Kevin Sheehan says: Hard-running player who is smart, has a penetrating kick and good pace and endurance. Played well at senior level in 2010 in the WAFL. Rohan is the nephew of Essendon premiership player, Darren and has already tasted senior football in the WAFL in 2010.
