Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

Too many small lead up forwards though already, Meli is fine, he'd be a crumbski!

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

Seriously, how many small forwards do we need on our list.

We have Davey, Meli will be rookied, Colyer and Zaka will spend some time forward.

By all means rookie one if suitable - But I wouldn't be wasting one of our few ND picks, on a small, crumbing forward.

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

Well the players mentioned in the past page or two are players that are late - rookie selections..

I am sick of hearing about the same old top 20 - 30 names, thought I would do a little bit of research and look at prospects that are later in the drafts as we do still need to pick 3 rookie selections (Marigliani/Bock/Williams all delisted)
These player reviews come draft time make everyone sound like a top 20 pick. Have you seen them play?

this :thumbsu:, totally agree

We have 3 massive needs. (Gun Midfielders, Rucks and small defensive players).

Our small forwards is probably one of our strengths and their isnt room for alot of them. When doing the team for next year i found it hard to fit all of them in. (Williams, Colyer, Jetta, Davey) are our main small forwards with crumbing ability. Than we have some good half forward flank small forwards with marking ability (Monfries, Zaha). As you said wouldnt mind if picked one up late in the rookie draft but wouldnt waste our time on it in the national draft with 3 massive areas of need to be addressed first.

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

Just looked at the Essendon player list on essendonfc.com.au and can't find Marcus Marigliani....any news...or is this just a mistake..

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

Rookie selections are notoriously difficult to predict.

I suppose you will get a better picture after the ND.

Do you think EFC will pick a ruck with 47 or wait for the Rookie Draft.

What about pick 8?

He was delisted.

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

Does anyone know what is happening with our NSW scholarship guy James Webster.

and isnt Meli classified as an international rookie thus outside the regular rookie system

I think we will go for a ruckmen in the rookie draft, however, if Lycett is available at pick 30, EFC 0. would jump at him in a flash (not that I am predicting that to happen

As for the players I have thrown up, I am just throwing up some different names that have not been mentioned.

The players I have mentioned I have actually dug a little deeper, contacted junior clubs, TAC/Club admins and got the word from them, so I know a little bit more about them than your average Joe.

Would you care to enlighten us to any potential players you would like at the EFC?

Meli is on an international rookie spot, so thus he is outside the list, and on Webster, he looks like a decent prospect..

Video here

Wouldnt mind him on the list to be fair, whilst Cole(Our other NSW Scholarship player) looks like an alright proposition..

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

Saw some highlights of Webster (NSW scholarship - or something along those lines)

Pretty impressed - knows how to find the footy and his disposal was exceptional in the footage I saw.

Yeah, really think we could be on a winner with Webster.

Was certainly one of the better NSW kids in the championships this year.

Apparently one of next year next years NSW kids (Oliver Tweedale) is pretty highly rated also.

Could be a good time for us.

When it comes to the kids, I am average Joe. Better off seeking enlightenment elsewhere.

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

HM granted him permission to post the information here.

Yeah, I did, and thanks to hff for the show of class in asking. Everyone gets some of their draft info from stuff other people have posted this time of year anyway.

And us Dons fans are all on the same side, after all... :)
