Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

eg. Houli + our 2nd Round > Richmond's 2nd round

yeah but a shame that richmond was only one pick before us and Houli only wanted to go to richmond? otherwise that could have been shopped around.

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

Yeah well these are the reasons essendon should have tried to upgrade its second round pick to something between 18 and 25. Jed lamb would be a perfect second round pick for us but unfortunately we're going to miss out...

I also agree with you about this idea, something i wouldve loved to happen but just doesnt happen in the trade these days. Upgrading a pick because you can your pick eg: 31 is alot worse than 6 picks off 25. If you understand what im saying. The difference between pick 25 to 31 this year seems to be greater than that 6 pick difference (the ability has a little drop off here).

However i think we should still get someone very decent at pick 31 if you look at these 30 names

plus Guthrie, McCarthy, L.Mitchell

Man the more I look at this kid (George Horlin Smith), the more I immediately think Nick Stevens, his kicking skills are subliminal and he has a nice height about him. I know its speculative but for our second pick in a compromised draft I think he is worth risk. He might not have an impact in 2011 but thats OK because after a full pre season in 2012 it will be like having 2 first round picks playing for us.

I do like Luke Parker and he ould be preferred option if he found his way but then its Georgie Smith all the way baby!!! Anyone have Dodoros mobile number, thought I might text him.

Also really like this player, cant believe he isnt rated as highly as what i feel. Could be the real bolter even though he has already boltered a fair bit. Could go first round i suspect but he could also be available at pick 31.

Seems a utility type aswell. If we can get a Parker, Haprer, Geogre horlin smith, prestia or Jacobs instead of a Green, Cripps, Guthrie, Hallahan with our second round i would be stoked. Someone has to slide and hopefully they slide to us.

Yeah well Luke Parker has a little bit of Ryan O'Keefe about him, i wouldnt mind Hallahan but only if those options b4 hand have gone...

Re: NAB AFL Draft: Thursday, 18th November @5pm

Last exam finishes on Thurs 3:10 so will be enjoying this years draft for sure. Looking forward to it, personally hoping for one of Polec, Caddy or Atley.

I think thats a sure thing if we are taking a midfielder. I think Caddy is very interesting. Emma Qualye seems to think that GC will take him at 7 and than i think she stated that essendon would take him if available which means we really rate him.

Thats what i read into the situation, like caddy is our preferred option and if available no matter what we will take him, otherwise we will take Atley as our fall back.

Also with Hird visiting Atley last week, has recent history suggested we tell our prospective draftees the night before the draft if there our preferred option, did we do that with hurley and melksham? I would find it unusual for us to show our cards that early to suggest Atley is our number 1 option. I think its caddy.

Re: National Draft / Rookie Draft Strategy (No Trade Talk)

really, please explain why you think this??? Your entitled to your opinion and I'm only basing it on the video highlights I have seen.

Slattery 20 is refering to you "subliminal" comment. I think you mean sublime, maybe?

yeah well another captain of the northern knights to play alongside hurley and Zahar, it should create a good bond for club unity...

dont forget Shifters live chat today at 1pm, although they rarely give anything away. I think the first question to daffey last week involved prestia going to essendon at pick 8, he ignored that and I don't thhink another essendon question was posted.

Maybe someone can ask shifter if his top 30 consisted of mature aged players or just under 18's players?

I doubt that Shifter watches much state league footy, although in 2009, he was a big wrap for Barlow, and expected him to be selected in the ND.

yeah well just an update he only mentioned what we already know about essendon. That pick 8 would come down to Polec, Atley, Prestia or Caddy depending on who was available....

It's hardly an anal-retentive thing when one word means a completely different thing to another.

It's ok man i said the wrong word, Pravo and well done. Now we can move on and talk footy again.

Re: NAB AFL Draft: Thursday, 18th November @5pm

If Neagle gets picked up by another club in the ND i'd give considerationton Grant Weeks. Big risk picking a guy straight from the bush, but 157 goals this year, 124 the year before. Is a naural full fwd but is a little bit undersized in the height dept from what i remember of him at Bendigo. But at 22 could be ready to go come Rd 1. With the likes of Matt Little being talked about as prospects im surprised to see no AFL club has taken an interest in him.

Was Grant Weeks invited to the state combine ?
