NAB Challenge 2016

Completely disagree sorry. If you can't discuss/debate your up-and-coming youngsters during NAB challenge when can you? NAB is the only time you get to see them playing against AFL quality opposition and getting some sense how they compare and if they are ready to play regular season.

Also, we are back even with every other team now. Might want to make the top 8 again first before we get too excited about being "kicks away from a flag". It's not even regular season yet FFS ;)

Well the way everyone is going on about best 22's and up-and-coming youngsters you would think we are doomed. Discuss to your heart is content but I'm here to say it how it is. No ****ing sugar coating shit.

Pretty simple stuff.
You play your best 22 and try your guts out for a flag. No rookie picked up in the last few months changes anything I'm sorry.

Look at Banfield/Butler or Nicoski, Lecras, Rosa. Some are best 22 and some are not there yet.

We have a pretty clear best 22 with about 5 or 6 who can still make a spot there's.
We aren't Richmond, lose one player and our winning percentage drops below 18% FFS.

If our expectation is anything other than make finals, make GF, win GF then sorry but I'm not interested and I'm, along with the club, wasting my time.

Are we wearing purple now or some shit?

Because he's been injured for the last 2 years and his style of play is solid but not flashy. If he can get back to full fitness we've got a big bodied inside bull who is also a tackling machine, just what we need.

Jetta will grab the attention for his flashy play, but Redden will be the workhorse doing the dirty work to let him do that.

Very happy we got him and I'm bullish he will be a good player for us.
redden will be exciting. He is an inside beast but can do some neat work outside the congestion. Im also excited about sheed. An improved sheed plus redden makes our midfield that much more stronger. We now have three very good players on the outside and three very good inside players and heaps of other players that do their part for the team.

Fair enough. FWIW I think we'll likely be there in Oct also. But just like the last NAB game I am tempering expectations for "melt management" because I'm not sure we'll charge out of the blocks this year and we could easily drop quite a few games in the early rounds. One thing I learnt from Browns vs Purples last year was timing your run is important.

We had 36 players play at least one game last year (and we didn't have a half B22 mass resting in round 23 like North and Freo). That's a fair few more than 22 + 5 or 6. (Hawks played 33 as another reference point). I think that's the point, unlike the Purples didn't last year, we try and manage our players across the season. In reality, plenty of the players we expect, right now, not to play a game this season, will have done so by season's end. So those 10-14 fringe players are important in our chances of finishing top 2 again. Depth is what wins premierships... so I have heard.

We are playing our "best" team, who does he replace?
We aren't a charity we are very much in a win now phase, young players must earn every second of game time they get.
Krapany . What the hell is he doing on a list.lucwarmass was a mistake lets move on

Depth is important and in todays game player flexibility is also a massive advantage.
I don't like mass resting of players like Freo and North last year.
When I was playing footy this sort of thing would never had happened.
Starting slow and hitting the finals like a steam train is definitely a good way of going about it.

The club is just being super careful.

We have injuries to the midfield we dont't have injuries to the forward line.

Until Kennedy retires or we move away from the double ruck setup I am not sure where Lamb plays.

People are saying to play him as a big bodied mid but considering he hasn't even looked down how to play forward I don't think we should be missing with his development.

At the moment we just don't need him. I suspect he knows that as well. Not sure how long we expect him to wait.

He's been on the list 1 year. Perhaps we could give him some time to develop?

Underdoge is a legend

To be fair, Nelson's instructions last year would have been "Don't **** up". Sheppingham + Gov were the engine room turning defense into offence..

I am very bullish about Lord Nelson but I think he'll likely fly the flag less often this year than last through no fault of his own. Pre-season reports have been great on him and I thought he has done well enough in NAB seeing as we have been flat as **** so far.

Will still get more games than Duggan, barring midfield calamity. Ha-ha!
Thats exactly what happened.

The Lavenders told me that midfields win premierships.....
I think they have proven that to be an exaggeration.

Club obviously see something in him. He didn't do much wrong last game, just really needs to learn to get involved at afl level. But hey I'm sure he will do that by not getting games yeah...

I want to see Karpany as a midfielder and not a forward....I guess he could learn of Cripps who was put into that role and has done a pretty good job.
Karpany was never a forward to begin with. Classic WC drafting small mids with highish draft picks and ruining their careers by trying to turn them into a small forward, which they could just have drafted with a late/rookie pick in the first place!

My thoughts exactly CC. Cant understand why Lucas was included ahead of Hotline.
Lucas is so shit

Yep very frustrating. Neates & Hams are a good example.
