Beams makes a great sub, imo.
Beams is a definite starter against the Doggies for mine. I don't think it is coincidental that when he plays we win more often than not. He can play the small forward with a run into the midfield role that Polks has held but is more creative and more skilled, He is also a nice accurate kick so he's in the mix for the Mcgrath,Bewick spot as well. When I consider all those players together its Polks who misses out.

While I'm keen to see Beams in the senior squad, him playing only one quarter on Friday night isn't a strong indication he's a lock for round one.

I thought Polks was OK. I've liked him in defence and thought he did alright on Friday as a defensive forward. I certainly see him as improved from last year.

Someone is going to be unlucky to miss selection. I think Polks has shown enough to warrant selection.

I won't be able to stand the Polk bashing this year. You can expect to hear me say this every week:
Polka is a match winner and does it most weeks. You don't drop blokes who play their role and then step up in a time of need.

Don't get angry when he's in the side this week because you can be pretty sure he will be...
At this stage, I am with you on this.

I actually think this pre-season he has shown something.

I agree that Polks didn't have great game on Friday but like Him as a defensive forward. He does a good job of holding the ball in our forward 50 a bit like Craig McRae used to do. I don't see him spending a lot of time in the midfield but with his defensive ability, good overhead mark and decent kick I've got him in our best 22.

Would prefer banfield if we're just looking for forward pressure.

Think we will get any respect from this Tigers reject Terry Wallace after we cleaned up the blues.
I prefer no respect from him and prefer to rub a flag in his face along with the AFL flagless Tigers.

Brisbane should brace for up to a decade of on-field pain because of the failed recruiting experiments which culminated in this week's sacking of Brendan Fevola, according to former Western Bulldogs and Richmond coach Terry Wallace.

10 YEARS of pain. Well if this is pain from Voss the boss then count me in.
Blind fredy can see one hell of a mean list forming. Last year I enjoyed the wins over
top 4 sides the Crows and West Coast. Oh thats right the West Coast got tired on the
plane over to Brissie.

Teams I see in for some 5+ year rebuild pain are.
Port Power
Saints
Bulldogs
Probably the Dee's again :).
And the champs Tigers 30+ rebuild pain and still going strong (Don't worry the media is pumping up there top 8 tires again but they still have to beat the Suns).

Lions are on the up.

Apart from that sunrise clip has anyone got any clips with the channel 7 commentary. I want to hear Bruce getting excited about the Lions

"Zorko!!! ZORKO!!! That was scrumdiddlyumptious!"

The most satisfying thing about the NAB Cup final was that THE LIONS HAVE DISCOVERED THE CENTRE COLLIDOR! No more backwards, sidewards, backwards chip, chip, backwards ... ooops ...turnover  football for the Lions will be a MAJOR STEP FORWARD!

The mark is at 16.34, and the stroppy look is around 21.40. Such an animated face.

Welcome to the board, mdtlion :thumbsu:

Agreed, Polks is in our best 22 due to his marking, diversity of position and mature body to compensate for the youngens.

You would have to say that he is in the bottom 5 or 6 players in the 22 though, and it is a very long season

Thanks for the welcome :)

Yeah I agree that Polks is in bottom 5 or 6 of the best 22 so he may get squeezed out at times considering we have a lot of depth in the positions he plays.

What areas does everyone think we lack depth?

My POV is we're still light in the ruck and key position forwards. Leuenberger and Staker injuries make me nervous. In the ruck Longer will be a star but not sure he can play a full season just yet if Leuenberger goes down again. Up forward Ace Cornelius, Martin & Lisle are all showing promise but aren't quite there yet. If we can develop in those areas we'll be unstoppable!

Go lions!!!

I just like how we made the blues look "second rate squibs" and how we smashed the forward press Ross lyon zzzz fest. I see upside all over the park. And people keep going on about when our older blokes retire we will be in trouble blah blah (I smell fear  ).

Also I loved it when we came out in the 3rd quarter and put them to the sword.
So Boys I want to see this more!!
Put them to the sword.
