looking at the free count makes this game look even uglier for the blues

Honestly, I thought the count was fair. We gave away a lot of dumb frees.

i am a firm believer in the notion of the foundations to a great team is a solid backline, call me bias but i think our backline is up there with the best in the comp at the moment, and i still feel its somewhat unheralded. i would not be suprised to see merrett and patful vying for all australian honors this year, and despite the odd brainfade, maguire is quite solid and competitive too, golby and yeo continue to impress, and adcock is a general back there!

Felt like we weren't getting equivalent ones paid the other way. Quite a few pushes in the back in marking contests and a lot of holding off the ball.

Biggest face palm for the Nine news intro. Three in a row in 2003, how hard is that to remember?

Yep. I bang on about it every year because it is one of the most frustrating aspects of the game as well as some responses to our free counts.
Whilst you could easily argue that not all frees against the Lions were there, I think we should concede that we give too many away.
But the frustrating part is the amount of frees not awarded to us. If the rules were applied equally, the free count would be more balanced. There were at least 5 instances where our player was tackled with the tackle being completed well after the ball was disposed, and no free. There were quite a number of softer ones paid the other way though.
If the count looks one sided, it is generally because they were paid that way.
So it is not the amount paid against us that irks, but the ones we don't get paid.

Prepare yourselves, to see the best method acting, of 2013.

I give to you, "The Fall", by Marc Murphy.

Ace might be a bit dirty about his performance last night, then. Not getting a look in a lot of the time and dropping the opportunities that he had, it is perhaps understandable that we was reluctant to come off when he was called.
IMO, Cornelius is just not up to AFL level.Meanwhile, a good win for the Lions...... were we that good, or was Carlton pretty poor on the night. Anyway, we won it and added 200k to the coffers which will help our debt.
My best players were , Hanley, Brown, Zorko ,Rich , and the backline guys did a great job. It hasnt been mentioned, but I thought Yeo did a fair job in defence.

Someone needs to 'shop out Golby and 'shop in a gunman and some blood spatter.

And on that theme...we dodged a bullet with Murphy. Looks like it didn't miss him though.

Than you folks. Try the chicken.

Stefan Martin will improve....he has a lot of spunk and agility....but appears really clumsy and goofy in his finish.

I think he lacks confidence...

Gotta have faith that he will come good with more game time - lots of promise and very versatile in lots of respects!

From the couple of games I've watched - he has terrific 1%ers. He shows a lot of effort in corralling opposition ball carriers if they are in the vicinity, which is excellent for a ruckman of his size. The only negative I could pick up, he doesn't seem to trust his kicking. How do I put it, he doesn't kick "through" rather stabs or tries to finesse it. Now, I don't know if he is a good kick at all, may have to dig up old melbourne youtubes and see.
He will take to the next level if he can kick and connect during link up play. so far he makes the effort to mark or get the ball, while quickly hand balls off to the nearest Lion. Something for our coaching staff to work on.

I would normally agree, but Jed is quite well known for some acting..

Meh, when I see him do what Murphy did, I'll feel like vomiting. Pretty sure I won't though.

If the MRP are convinced by Murphy's theatrics, I reckon it will be as follows for Golby..

Striking, intentional, low impact, body. That is a level 2 striking offence. 125 points which would be reduced to a reprimand and 93.75 carryover points with an early plea.

I didn't get see anything after the first q apart from the highlights but may I say seeing the boys get up makes me feel like the magician must have felt belting that ball into the crowd. There is something special about that kick, an image of joy and love for the game. Pure satisfaction. On the golby murphy incident (although obviously exaggerated) we must at least acknowledge that Golby was out of line and that it was an unnecessary and silly move and that despite the theatrics he probably does deserve punishment.
