To answer your question, the club can nominate 1 rookie to play throughout the season, regardless of players being on the LTI list. I believe that they can nominate a second later in the season, but others with more knowledge of the rules could clarify that.
As we have two players on the vets list I believe we can only play rookies to replace players on the LTI list. However after round 11 we can play one rookie for the balance of the season in addition to the LTI replacements.
The AFL may possibly have changed the rules recently but that has been the situation up until this season. Sadly injuries are a part of football as we all know from past years but I hope we are not plagued with LONG TERM injuries to KEY players this year. Outside the top 6 or 8 players (mainly midfielders and KPPs) we appear to have the depth to cover a reasonable run of injuries in 2012.
