Nab Cup Expectations!

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Ok everyone. We all know the NAB cup is not to be taken seriously. But we all know that if we happen to win the thing, we'd all be happy with a little financial bonus.

Im one of the few who believe that its better to do well in the NAB cup than to just capitulate before the season has even began.

Im asking you all, who would you like to see lining up for the blues during the pre-season competition and who you'd like to see sitting it out! What are you expecting to see on the field and what will make you satisified with the progress that has been happening?

Personally id love to see as many young guns out there as possible (murphy and Gibbs especially) and perhaps give Kouta a break so he is able to endure the full 22 week season.

Id also love to see how Waite and Fisher are doing after a full pre-season, being injury-free.

Love it or loathe it, we'll al be watching the NAB cup, dont deny it!
Love to see Hartlett, Russel and Wiggo out there. As well as a few of the recruits (gibbs, anderson).
Love to see Sentanta and Bower playing on Johns and Lloyd first game.
Waite at CHB on Lucas.
Whitnall at CHF.
Walker on the ball.
Gibbs on HFF.
And give kouta a rest first game.

Particulary excited to see Murphy, Stevens, Waite and Kennedy.

I wonder if in the players minds, being left out of the NAB cup team is a punishment or a reward?

First and second year players probably cant wait to get out there and have a crack. The more senior players however probably don't give a stuff.

other years we never had senior players in Pre season games thats why we never won maby pre season pre when we beat Geelong in the mid 90's when it was a night grand final :) we always use to play the kids and rest the senior players rather then them getting injuries
the old pre season games were a lot better then they are today
it was brought in for teams who didn't make the Finals
playing teams from other states was good too
its good to watch any games on tv weather its your side or not

I notice you've left Russel off the list. I wonder if you did it on purpose or forgot to include him.

Im not a fan of Russel's, and i dont think he'll ever make a good AFL footballer (i hope he proves me wrong). But i think he should be played in the nab cup to give him every oportunity to prove himself this season.

The fact he lined up for the possibles team would indicate he'll be fighting to get into the team.

i am not worries about a team line up at this stage.
I just want to see a BIG improvement in the skills department, i know it is only the first proper hit out of the season but on our performances from last year we have alot of ground to make up on some of the better teams.
I am not expecting miracles i just want to see some good "clean" footy.

all i want is a team that can beat essendon so the Blue boys can travel down here to the apple isle, i haven't seen the blues play down here since tommy alvin was running about.

Mine is;
Scotland Hartlett Saddington
Thornton O'hAlpine Houlihan
Walker Stephens Waite
Simpson Kennedy Fisher
Cloke Fevola Betts
R; Ackland, Murphy, Bentick
Bench; Wiggins, Gibbs, Russell, Anderson, Bannister,Bower
I'd love to be in the position to able to have Waite on the wing. I don't think they could match his pace, height and long kicking ability. I really don't think he is a top line KP player. Even though he's built like one.

Hartlett - what I saw yesterday I liked. He has to start in the NAB cup, at the very least on the bench.

He is a big body [bigger than I thought] and aggressive, put a couple of blokes on their a$$ yesterday.

Remember he was very good in NAB L/Y and if he is fit then get him in to build confidence as he should be in the best 22 for the regular season.

I can cope with you highlighting your own posts by putting them in blue, bullet pointing etc, and have held my tongue, but putting them in blue AND a print font is just plain annoying. If you really want to draw attention to yourself and your posts at least could you use a web font.

B: Russell Saddington Thornton
HB: Walker Waite Scotland
C: Houlihan Murphy Simpson
HF: Gibbs Kennedy Lappin
F: Blackwell Fevola Fisher
Foll: Ackland Carrazzo Stevens
Inter: O'Hailpin Betts Bentick Wiggins Cloke Bower

This is the team i'd like to see on the park for NAB Cup against Essendon. Probably missed a few players who i'd like to see there but its late :P

Where do you get off with comments like this? Drawing attention? I come on this site because of the interaction and the fact we all support the same team, have opinions and do not really expect to be ridiculed.
The Carlton Blues, we are the Blues, Blue Font - big deal. Would have thought the gramatical errors, spelling mistakes, excessive use of the emotion icons that some people use would be a bigger issue than font and colour. But hey that is the beauty of us being individuals.

To everyone else - if the blue is an issue please advise and black it will be from here on in, will probably do it anyway after this.

Audus - thanks a heap.

You can't be serious?

If you want to post in blue then post in blue mate :thumbsu:

It's an opportunity to try new players, positions, and tactics which is always good. As long as we beat Essendon in the first round I'll be happy with our performance. However, they looked in good touch last week so I won't be pencilling that win in.

I'm not so focused on the prize money anymore for some reason.

I especially want to see most of: Aisake, Jackson, Flint, Anderson, Austin, Hartlett, Russell, Gibbs, Grigg, Hampson, and even Jacobs and Benjamin if they're fit, get match time. We all know how guys like Fev, Kouta, Murphy, Whitnall, Lappin go, so I'm happy to see them sit the series out.

Mate i put him on the interchange bench as thats where i think he will start. Lets give him a chance because everygsme that he has played has been with little opportunity = whenever he did something whrong he would be dragged. I think Denis is going to be a little bit more patient with him this year and give him a go ALA SIMPSON

Sorry just read it wrong. But we both agree that he should be given plenty of oportunity, and hopefully he gets it. Otherwise Port will be all over it, and the last thing we want is other clubs to make stars out of our players.

lets start off with a big win over Essendon :) lets have a few 9 pointers ;)
i can see fev able to kick some 9 pointers , along with a few others

I like this team, however i'd have Edwards in there on the interchange, perhaps in place of Kouta?

I've always found it difficult in naming teams for the pre-season comp, as i'm not sure you want to put your absolute best team out there, as I believe giving the kids a go, but you also need to get have your senior players ready to go for round 1.

There are always going to be players that could consider themselves unlucky not to get a spot, but there are always the regional challenges should we get beaten.

All I want to see in the preseason is a somewhat cohesive team that does 2 things - good disposal, and good decision making. IF we can do that, and do it consistently, then we are already better than last year.
